Re: Pi4 crashes randomly

UPADATE: I am still having random crashes, especially in chrome and GMAIL. I have yet to track down the issue with my 1 GB model. However, my 4 GB model on same set up ( official power supply, same card) works like a charm. I am hoping the team is aware and is working on the issue and its not a fau...

Re: Pi4 crashes randomly

I too am experiencing this same 'Aw, snap' problem in Chromium and it seems to be random. Using a Pi4 1GB and 2GB, both experience the same issue. I thought it was a Chromium related problem. Sometimes it hangs the OS for a while. Other times it doesn't. Increasing the swap space solved it for me o...

I have just been told off for sitting for too long at PC during family holiday when all I have done is tried to catch up on this thread. TL:DR  going back to topic....any projection when the supply leveling off with the demand? ;) When demand reduces. It won't remain at current "must have" level indefinitely. That has to be balanced against the spread of knowledge that Pis even exist. Oh wait...I get it....it's like Descart...

Not sure what 'cheap' means, but I had this Logitech wireless keyboard lying around and plugged it in to my Pi4 ... works great.

Re: Before Raspberry Pi

People think of NASA as high-tech but in the early 1980's secretaries were not allowed to have their own desktop PCs. We had an unused microcomputer sitting around so I proposed we convert it to be used for all the secretaries to use for word processing. I was given the go ahead to build the system...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

I think I'm having the worst of it. My Pi4 is laying bare on a table, no case, with CanaKit radiators on. Fresh Raspbian Buster installed. USB ports are all taken by keyboard, mouse, and 2 USB sticks. It's idling at 75º and smells burnt circuitry, with ambient temperature around 26º. Video playback...

a comment said this hardware is almost free? where can you get a free pi? i would like to get one. ... I could add all that up for you, but I think you are smart enough to see its surly not free. "Almost free" does not mean "free", but I think you are smart enough to know that. Relative to spending...

Sandisk 64GB A1 micro SD card running the latest Raspbian Buster on a Pi4B 2GB using Chromium as the browser. Are you watching the video via Chromium? That still has issues at 4K60. Chromium has more overheads than a a video player. I found Chromium works a bit better on my 4B1 if I increase the sw...

which model of Pi? I had issues with the RPi 4 1Gb and chromium ... particularly with gmail and other pages. My first 1Gb would crash with "Aw, Snap!" errors.... the replacement board ran without crashes but extremely extremely slow.... I increased the swap-file size from 100 to 1000 and that helped...

Re: Learning Assembler on the Pi

Try C. The compiler is very good at optimising code. It may know tricks that you wouldn't think of in assembler. Also, the source can be compiled to run on most hardware platforms - apart from hardware specific parts. Since the OP wants to learn an assembly language, I would urge him to do so. He w...

I suspect the 4 would work for most if not all, but but but there is still work going on to finish/finalize the software...also the ARM processor in the 4 is different so that might be an issue (I don't know the difference at the assembly level between them). Go with the Pi4 with Raspbian Buster Th...

I'm sorry that the book does not meet your needs. I have some contractual agreements regarding use of the material, so there isn't much I can do at this time. The contract does allow me to maintain a free copy online, but I cannot share the source. As stated on my website, I am retired, so all the ...

Just tried watching a YouTube video (720p) on my Pi4b in fullscreen 4kp30. Not remotely impressed, the video was so laggy I was getting about 0.5fps and lots of screen tearing. Only while fullscreen, when not fullscreen, the Pi happily played even 1080p content buttery smooth. (using Raspbian so ca...

chuUK, It is Win95 levels of annoyance, frustration and downright crappiness we hated Microsoft for. Those are not the reasons we hated MS back in the day and still have major reservations about. Sounds like you are expecting way too much from the humble Pi. Raspbian is perfectly fine. This!!
