Re: Bitcoin Mining, is it worth it?

I can't imagine with a PI, unless you just want to experience the process and try mining some less popular coins. You need to get in right at the start with a new coin as (IMHO) they seem to be 'pump and dump' schemes. I possibly destroyed an expensive laptop by mining 24/7, and the resultant coins ...

Re: Powering a RPI 4 + 2.5" HDD connected to USB 3.0

Thanks for this post, I think it may explain why my Pi4 setup kept freezing when running SDR software. Peripherals used were Intel SSD (1A), RTL-SDR dongle (~0.24A) and official keyboard/mouse (~0.08A). Definitely over the 1.2A limit. I use the official Pi4 power supply. I went back to SD card only ...

Re: Can’t ssh into raspberry Pi Zero

When I set up my Pi4b recently I created the blank SSH file then ran raspi-config to enable SSH so I could use PuTTY: sudo raspi-config 5. Interfacing Options, P2. SSH, Enable SSH server. I did use monitor, keyboard and mouse plugged into the Pi to do this on Buster, so not sure if you can do the sa...

Re: Disable HDMI Audio & Force 1/8" Jack Audio?

Write "sudo amixer -c n cset numid=3 x" where n is the number your sound card has as seen in alsamixer, and x the desired output (0 for auto, 1 for jack and 2 for HDMI). Worked for me. Worked for me too. I realise I'm resurrecting an old thread but I wanted to thank you for your advice. I have trie...

Re: Casting RetroPie to laptop display

I view my Pi4 on a desktop PC screen via wifi, so unless Retropie disallows it I would think you could use a laptop too. Are you using Raspian Buster (the latest version)? Have you enabled ssh and vnc in raspi-config, and also created a blank file called ssh (no filename extension) in the boot folde...

Re: Is there any working version of Mame for RPI4 in any form?

So far how is the framerate looking for you guys on the games you care about? Pressing F11 shows me a % readout. Galaxians stays at 100%, Phoenix 99 to 100%, Defender 89 - 100%. Defender is very playable, but shows a slight lag in the flight of the ship, the sound samples at bootup and the start of...

Re: Is there any working version of Mame for RPI4 in any form?

Yes, the repository version works (0.206), at least for the few games I tested, e.g. Galaxian. Sorry if you require a more up-to-date version, I'll post my findings anyway. I don't know how to compile a version. Go to Preferences, Add/Remove Software, search for 'mame'. Install 'Multiple Arcade Mach...

Re: cannot use dualshock3 in game, on mednaffe/mednafen

Yes, my wiimote was recognised early in proceedings. I wonder how much of what I did was really required, or will be required when there is a new RetroArch/RetroPie version. wiimote is good for nes and maybe genesis but not really for snes That's why I use the Classic Controller Pro for SNES emulato...

Re: cannot use dualshock3 in game, on mednaffe/mednafen

i think VNC saves control alt delete for the system you're on and doesn't send it over, so maybe it could be a similar issue with alt+shift? one thing to try would be to plug in the keyboard into the pi to see if that makes a difference I just tried this after reading your reply and it worked, than...

Re: cannot use dualshock3 in game, on mednaffe/mednafen

I've been running Mednafen via VNC, I run everything via VNC. I don't have to, I have cables to run direct to a monitor, it's just easier to run a PC and Raspberry Pi through the same monitor/mouse/keyboard. The temp is always below 50C. I think I have the temps under control, I use a (relatively) o...

Re: cannot use dualshock3 in game, on mednaffe/mednafen

Mednafen keyboard input works intermittently for me with the Pi4B - sometimes it works, sometimes the keys don't respond or the game freezes. I've also tried using a bluetooth Wiimote (my controller of choice with a PC), and have it working with the Pi4B for basic 'jstest-gtk' testing. I cannot get ...

I tried this myself out of interest, but not sure how to convert to GBit/s. My system: Pi-4B 4GB Intel 520 series 120 GB SSD 'Cable Matters' 1metre USB 3.0 Type A to Micro B cable Orico 2139U3 (R1.0) enclosure: pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda1 /dev/sda1: Timing cached reads: 1636 MB in 2...

Re: Pi 4 heat sinks

Thanks for the info, maybe I should have tried flipping it around 180 degrees, it may have fit. It just seemed to be touching the connectors either side which concerned me. Since getting the fan-shim the size of the heatsink is probably less important now, I can keep it in the 40 to 50 degrees-C zon...

Re: Pi 4 heat sinks

I believe the SoC heat spreader is a little higher than the surrounding components so you can fit a bigger heat sink. Like this https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/raspberry-pi-4-heatsink I bought one of these, but the fit seemed so tight that I was concerned about trying to wedge it into place and ...

Re: cooling for RPi4

I bought a Fan-Shim for my Pi4 in coupe case which works well. I also got a 'booster header' which raises the GPIO pins and allows me to clear my existing CPU heatsink (which is 6mm height), plus allows me to push the fan-shim right down onto the pins for stability whilst still being able to use the...
