Re: How would i get all this to send to googlemaps and send back a link

Sadly that didn't work I've been trying to learn as much as i can without throwing code in and hoping for the best but these conditional statements confuse the heck out of me. I get this error Traceback (most recent call last): File "/tmp/tmp/pycharm_project_812/gps.py", line 41, in <module> if gps_...

My bad - I just looked at the break and not the code before  Try: def parse_gps(incoming_data): if incoming_data.find("GGA") > 0: data = pynmea2.parse(incoming_data) # Debug prints # print("Timestamp: %s // Lat: %s // Lon: %s // Satellites: %s " % (data.timestamp, data.latitude, # data.longit...

Re: How would i get all this to send to googlemaps and send back a link

You need to indent the break beyond the IF: while True: gps_fix = ser.readline().decode('ascii') parse_gps(gps_fix) d = data.num_sats if d > 7: break That is what I thought and have previously tried however I can’t set d to the variable I want as it doesn’t know what data.num_sats is. I know that i...

Re: WiFi - Hot Spot Access

@YitEarp Thank you, I had not seen that article before. Come to think of it, I am not sure though how to access the Pi Headless, although I hope I can still use VNC. Yeah you can do it via VNC all you need is terminal. However i would recommend using the GUI straight from HDMI of the RasPi if you h...

Thank you. That is exactly what I was hoping for. Super easy to do too https://thepi.io/how-to-use-your-raspberry-pi-as-a-wireless-access-point/ Beware though if you use something like PiHole it kills the AP i think its to do with taking over dnsmasq never really looked into it but after awhile i n...

Re: Anyone familiar with the Waveshare GSM/Bluetooth Hat?

I'm looking at these waveshare rpi hats. As a newbie, i'm wondering if they can be powered through the hat-connection, or if they generally require external power? They can be powered by the pi GPio pins. Either use a header or solder the wires yourself. Look for a pi with a pre soldered header mak...

Re: How would i get all this to send to googlemaps and send back a link

Please do not take this the wrong way but you may do best to spend an hour or two looking at an intro to python. The first eight of these https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-osiE80TeTskrapNbzXhwoFUiLCjGgY7 will help significantly to understand the basics. Your code already shows that you have th...

Re: How would i get all this to send to googlemaps and send back a link

You could spin the map routine off into its own thread or use the multiprocessing functions in python. That would let you continue with the serial read. Unless you need to have the pin permanently on the map you can bypass the whole Google API and use the location as part of the URL in this format:...

Re: Help me complete this python GPS code for sending SMS with googlemaps data

If you change your if to a while then that part of the code will loop until the output is less than one, then it will execute the rest of your program. Thanks i tried that but it still carries on when there is no GPS data to read from "Location Not Fix" i'll keep going with these python courses and...

Help me complete this python GPS code for sending SMS with googlemaps data

Try print "Timestamp: %s -- Lat: %s %s -- Lon: %s %s " % (data.timestamp, data.latitude, data.lat_dir, data.longitude, data.lon_dir) The East/West or North/South direction stays the same. Re: Help adding pynmea to parse data in code

the co-ordinate will be correct, just not split up and maybe in the wrong format. try msg.latitude and msg.longitude for a different format. Came across that problem myself, you're either miles away or 40 miles in the wrong place. You are grabbing the "GGA" sentence not the "RMC" sentence. For what...

Re: Help adding pynmea to parse data in code

I have just started learning python so i have guessed that because the while True: statement is a loop? What would i use to end? would it be something like if str > 1:? Also am not sure it is capturing how i want as this doesn't look like an GNMRC sentence as co-ords lead to nothing (changed values ...
