Did you ever find a solution for this issue? I have my pi wired the exact same way, and I have also tried the same code that you pasted.

I will check the amperage of my adapter, the strip is 60LEDs and what do you mean by rating? Amps? Wattage? Either will do. We can work it out from that and the voltage. Hi, we assume you have enough current to draw all the LED's - how long is the strip, how many LED's, what is the rating of the +5V PSU?
