You could also try soldering some wires with an old micro usb connector (old smartphone psu), use it to power the Pi, then use the GPIO header to power the screen. Personally i power my screen through the header and power it through the PI with a micro usb connector from a 2.5 A / 5.1 V PSU. Just be...

Sorry just exchanged today that pi for a brand new one. The people that sold me are an official raspberry pi reseller so they'll probably put the pressure up in the food chain.

Ok after browsing the forums i found out that you only need the 5V and ground cable. Issue remains. Reinstalled os using noobs, had tried using a raspbian image before. Issue continues. I have the display board connected to the pi by GPIO ( 5V, SDA, SCL, GND) and i'm powering the pi using the microUSB on the display board.
