Re: at least one HDMI mode on the Rpi4 has changed

In https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/1202, 6by9 (a Raspberry Pi engineer) said: These blocks being the part of the chip that produces the display - HVS being Hardware Video Scaler. A fix for the bug will be available in the next few days. Once it is, run the following to get it: sudo r...

Re: at least one HDMI mode on the Rpi4 has changed

Actually, per https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/1202 can you try this instead: hdmi_group=2 hdmi_cvt=1366 768 60 hdmi_mode=87 adding/changing these values in /boot/config.txt may have helped a bit. I'm not sure whether ultimately the above worked or if was simply connecting the Samsung...

Re: at least one HDMI mode on the Rpi4 has changed

I installed edid-decode as recommended above. edid-decode.txt.gz With the recommend change to /boot/config.txt, I didn't see the post screen just now. Plus, the Xconsole was not started without me first booting with my main screen connected instead of the Lapdock. The pi desktop is set to 1280x720 b...

at least one HDMI mode on the Rpi4 has changed

I have a 'known good' monitor I've used for ALL of my Raspi boards from the first through 3B. Having it not work for my new Raspi 4-4GB, sent me on the will not boot path for a few hours. I've seen others mention it in the forums but not as a clear topic. I tried with the 3.2 noobs (no boot screen) ...

Re: pi4 can't get video on a hdmi monitor

my pi4 works fine on my main telly but I bought a little screen for it which I can't get anything from (not even the initial rainbow splash) It works super with pi3 - giving really clear readable text in 1080p even with tiny fonts! so I really would like to get this monitor working with my pi4... e...

Just received a Pi 4, 4GB from Canakit.com. I ordered it via Amazon on Prime Day.

They still show having them in stock as of yesterday.

Re: headless Pi using 3.5 with touch GUI, separate from HDMI main

After some digging ... There are a couple of notable Git projects: 1) https://github.com/notro/fbtft 2) https://github.com/juj/fbcp-ili9341 #1 mentions that it is now part of the kernel build tree. #2 is a customized implementation similar to #1 but offers optimizations for SPI/display data bandwidt...

Re: headless Pi using 3.5 with touch GUI, separate from HDMI main

Additional thoughts. I've written and implemented a touch LCD on a bare metal project before. There are a lot of pieces to craft and it was tedious. In an effort to avoid reinventing the wheel, I had hoped that the rich development environment of *nix would have widgets already built for these tasks...

headless Pi using small LCD with touch GUI, separate from HDMI main

Has anyone found a method for developing and using the common 3.5 inch waveshare board (LCD, touchscreen via SPI) ? I would like to see it used as a separate device for GUI, not cloning the main screen. Any language and/or platform is fine. I think it would be worth a post a blog with a simple proje...

Re: Can a 128GB SD card work as memory?

Esoteric arguments benefit no one but the participants. It is most likely they were concerned, as so many are, about SD card support for a high-density card. Most people are not familiar with the subtleties of flash memory cards not being referred to as RAM or memory by purists. We have a large prop...

Re: Can a 128GB SD card work as memory?

Yes, the 128GB will work as a flash drive.

( for a site of so-called experts, why does the simplest response require so much bickering and still not answer the question directly)

As they say "I grabbed my popcorn" and looked at this thread after seeing the title the current tail. I was happy to see the OP was able to feel some relief and returned to voice their issues. I've been an avid tinkerer my whole life. Programming since age 14 on a teletype, I'm now 55. I have develo...

That's a wide range, you want in? I would appreciate if we took the time to write out acronyms in general, and non obvious ones in particular. (Asking for explanations of acronyms several times is odd.) It sounds like you have a large scale project in mind. You should state your credentials and you...

Re: Broadcom BCM2835 Power Saving

I think the thing to remember is this: while the raspberry pi processor chip uses familiar building blocks, the design and implementation were towards the goal of making a small minimalist hobbyist computer system in a tiny space. Trade-offs were made, functionality was not the prime goal. Reducing ...

Re: When will Raspberry Foundation admit that the Pi destroys your SD cards?

To those who claim to run 24/7 without issues: I'm pretty sure your use-cases are not really write-heavy, am I right? Write-heavy implementations using an SSD or even a microSD, both based on flash are going to wear out the chip. 10,000 write-erase cycles can go by very quickly in a poorly implemen...

Re: Pi Zero W availability

I'm going to try to go away silently ... the group here is fixated on commercial order type thoughts. As a tinkerer, the edge connected compute module is overkill and much pricier to implement a 1-off idea, since it requires a custom board for each implementation. The PiZero (or even a full Pi) was ...

Re: Pi Zero W availability

Until this weekend (and this thread), I 'assumed' that the 1 per person limit was rationing similar to what we experienced when the first raspberry pis were released. I think that one per person at a discount was a decent reason, but why not say THAT more clearly. Perhaps, if supplies are adequate, ...

Re: Pi Zero W availability

I would rather hope for a clarification about the apparent rationing still in effect. Yes, it's understandable that margins are slim. I appreciate the effort to build a low-cost platform to distribute to educators. But, based on the site, my thoughts are that the low-cost ZeroPi platform just helps ...

The official line is that it is 1 per person at the five or ten dollar price for Pi zero and Pi zero w respectively. I don't really intend to stir the pot. It seems the other 2 are busy bickering and ignoring your post. Without knowing the specs for the lighting and solid state relays. It might be easiest to experiment with 1 light setup as a representative. 2 would be more handy. Set up 1 with a very short setup for wiring and the other with a 'max' l...

Today, I just discovered the site 'PiShop.us'. This shop and the Adafruit site still limit quantities. I was able to buy 1 PiZeroW and 1 PiZero from Adafruit (quantities restricted to 1). Re: Best way to control 179 things individually

The 'best' ways can only be suggested by knowing the application. Distances between switch control groups, propagation speed, complexity(or management) and cost are the biggest factors.

Hopefully, the OP will give us some more details to play with :)

Re: Best way to control 179 things individually

Using the mini network that Modbus RS-485 is not so trivial if it's new for you. But, any multiplexing effort will take some planning. I once had a project where we opted to use RS-485 between a host and multiple slaves. I don't mind giving you some pointers as you mull it through. Depending on the ...

raspi2fb allows the JavaFX output to the primary "DispmanX" display to be mirrored to the attached LCD display. I'll take a look at this, thanks. I've been avoiding investigating 'mirrored' solutions because I had imagined using a headless system, perhaps without X, to make some small turnkey devic...
