Re: Bluetooth detection

Done a rework today. I have a bit of an on/off relationship with Python. It's just a hobby so I learn tons and then forget it all. This is what I now have and it seems to work. #!/usr/bin/python2 import bluetooth import time from subprocess import call timeout = 15 scoreOUT = 0 scoreIN = 0 while Tru...

Bluetooth detection

Hi I've built a head unit for my car running Open Auto Pro. This mirrors Android Auto and my phone connects to the Pi via Bluetooth. To get round the issue of a clean shutdown without messing with hardware, I'm running a Python script to detect the phone on Bluetooth and run a shutdown if it's not d...

Connecting to OpenVPN

Hi all Not sure if this is the right place. I have a Netgear router running a VPN using OpenVPN. This all works fine on my mobile as they provide a file that you import for Windows, Mac and Android. I've built an OpenAuto carputer which runs on Raspian and would like to be able to connect to the rou...

@ras07

Doh! My mistake. I think I'd messed with this for so long that I couldn't see the wood for the trees. Just went back and tried again and it works!

Thank you! Sometimes it needs a fresh pair of eyes to sanity check things.

I've asked in the ActionTiles forum and they've come back with this:

"You need to be sure to have to URL for the plain MJPEG stream..."
Have you tried http://my.ip.add.ress/cam/cam_pic_new.php ?
I have indeed. But that only seems to show the latest image as far as I can remember

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Morning Can't remember if I've asked this before but I'm looking at this again and can't work out the answer. I'm using Smartthings with ActionTiles and trying to add my camera feed. It's asking for the feed URL. If I use http://my.ip.add.ress/cam/min.php then I just get a broken image < This works ...

Re: MotionEyeOS General Use

Possibly not. MotionEyeOS is a cut down version so there's lots of bits missing. You'd be better off installing MotionEye (without the OS) on top of Raspbian. Alternatively, look at RPi Cam Web interface. Personally, I prefer it, having tried both. You get the ability to record images and videos via...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

What IP are you using? Is it an internal one, or your public facing one? Which port and sub folder did you choose when you ran the setup script? If you chose Apache as the server, is Apache running?

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

I've just installed a Samsung Smartthings hub and I'm using Action tiles to control everything. There's a tile that you can set up for media which is aimed at a camera feed but I just get a broken image all the time. In the config of ActionTiles, the checkbox I have ticked is: This Media is an MJPEG...

The SAF is very easy to overcome. Especially at this time of the year. The first time they get into bed, it's cold outside, and the electric blanket is on, BOOM! You've just justified the thousands of pounds you've spent on gadgets. My Raspberry Pi controlled ambient light system for the TV is helpi...

Thank you for that very in-depth reply! I'll have a good read and hopefully have something to keep me busy. I've just finished my latest project (ambient lighting for the TV) and need something to get my teeth into.

Cheers

Long moisture sensors for irrigation

Hi all For my next project, I want to set up an irrigation system for some large-ish planters that my other half has ordered. Each planter is about 1.5m long, 45cm wide and 35cm deep. I've seen lots of tiny little sensors about 6cm long that look like they're aimed at pots but `I don't think this wi...

Ambient lighting for TV

Not entirely sure where this one fits but I thought I'd chuck it in here. I've just finished building my ambient lighting system for my TV and a few people have asked for details. I followed a tutorial on instructables but the guy misses some of the information out and this caused me a few hours of ...

This looks like you changed the host name at some point, either directly or through raspi-config. What happens if you try to connect to the IP address rather than the host name?

Re: Multi-camera motion eye os

I haven't used MotionEye for a while but when I did. I had 3 cameras. There's a link in one of the menus for adding a camera - I think you click on the camera name at the top of the screen. Then you just fill in the form with the details of the other cameras. As far as I remember, this was really ea...

Re: Coffee anyone?

I bought a cafetière in 2002. It still works. The idea of travelling while having coffee is utterly alien to me. Everything stops for coffee. Ah, now there's the thing. The Oomph isn't a thing to make good coffee and travel. It's a thing to travel and make good coffee when you get there. If you're ...

@davidcoton No rose tinted glasses here. No glasses at all, in fact. I saw the product, decided that I had to have one and ordered it within about 60 seconds. I'm well aware of the potential pitfalls of kickstarter projects and decided to take the risk. I said "I think". That was based on the produc...

He says he has it under control. Sometimes you've got to have a little faith. If innovation relied on the feelings of naysayers, nothing would get off the ground. I'd love to find some opinion on the Pi when it was first mooted: "Yeah, we're gonna build a computer on a board the size of a cigarette ...

I think this is past kickstarter stage and they're already shipping. I messaged the guy this morning on FB about colour choices and he's just come back to me so that's a good start. I've got an Aeropress and Oomph already. These were Kickstarter projects. I know this one is different because it's a ...

They used to be an electronics shop. You could wander in on a Saturday morning with your circuit diagram badly drawn on the back of an envelope. The guy you spoke to would have a quick look, maybe change the value of a resistor here or a capacitor there and you'd walk away with a little bag of goodi...

Anything in /var/log/syslog around the time that it crashes - or at least just before you see it reboot if you can't identify the time of the crash?

What else are you doing with the Pi?

Re: WiFi intermittant problem

I can't answer 1, I'm afraid. I had a similar problem and this is what I did for 2 though. Create a script called checkwifi.sh in /usr/local/bin and put this in it: ping -c4 192.168.0.1 > /dev/null if [ $? != 0 ] then sudo ifdown wlan0 sudo ifup wlan0 fi Next: sudo chmod +x checkwifi.sh And add this...

Re: Occupancy Detection

I use ARP network scanning to let my cctv known when nobody is in. Most people carry phones with them these days. This sounds interesting. One of the boys spends most of his time in his room gaming. His room is right on the limit for the BLE detection so he gets marked as out and in depending on wh...
