Re: Having issues with MacOS Catalina and gadget mode

I have also been having issues with my PiZero USB Ethernet Gadget since I upgraded to Catalina - I could still SSH into it, but it no longer got its internet from my Mac. I can't say I was getting a new driver each time, though I did have TWO of them when I looked just now. I deleted one. I did what...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4! [WORKING]

I tested @futurejones 's etcher scripts exactly as he has them (without my change for nodejs), and they also resulted in a working balenaEtcher on my pi4. I burned Rapsbian onto a card using that new Etcher, the card verified fine, then I used that card to boot a Zero, and it ran fine as well. I loo...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4!

Yes, the (newer) @futurejones scripts are the way. I continued to make my stubborn change to get nodejs and npm via apt, instead of curl and nodesource, as mentioned above. I substituted the four lines below for the curl and install lines in his script "balena-etcher-arm/etcher-build/install_depende...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4!

Perhaps the packaging steps in the doc I was referring to aren't the latest, and the fancier scripts @futurejones provides are really how he successfully packages the app.

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4!

I've been testing @futurejones 's detailed Etcher build instructions, from his github site: https://github.com/futurejones/balena-etcher-arm/blob/master/etcher-build/BUILD.md on a clean install of Raspbian, on my pi4. NOTE: he's put together some scripts to do all of this, but I've just been perform...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4

Here's a short slice of my latest activity trying to get Etcher built on a pi4. I had previously, finally, got fpm installed (a required packaging tool), then got Etcher to build and package, but the deb wouldn't install, complaining about compression. Turns out, this is a known fpm-1.11.0 problem s...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4!

I did get rubygems installed (see this side post https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=256796 , which did allow me to get fpm installed, which allowed me to complete the Etcher build process, actually resulting in a .deb file. I'm having some issues getting that to install, but muc...

Re: sudo apt install rubygems FAILS

Thank you for your post - I have to say I had forged ahead before seeing it. But it did explain something that I had never heard of before, so that may come in handy sometime. I had started by trying to find a more ruby-ish way of getting rubygems. The site https://rubygems.org/pages/download sugges...

Thank you for your enthusiasm, but I've removed the [WORKING] from the title of my reply, and I hope this will change the banner for the whole topic back the way it was. I would be happy to change the banner - on a thread I started - once I see the steps posted and several parties have done the buil...

I'm sure there are others who would want to repeat this themselves.

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4?

The Etcher build process requires the packaging tool "fpm" - see https://fpm.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ . So far, I've been unable to get fpm installed on my Pi4. fpm is written in ruby, which is OK because ruby is already installed on the pi. The fpm installation instructions https://fpm.readthedocs...

Re: upgrade of pi-bluetooth leads to hciuart error

If anyone noticed (or cared), that sequence of commands with pipes and the awk one-liner isn't the exact one I used - I mistakenly Frankensteined together an earlier similar command with the right output.

upgrade of pi-bluetooth leads to hciuart error

I just upgraded my stable of pi's. I do this pretty often (though not regularly) - I think I did this last on October 24. I have an original model B, a pi2, a 3b, a 3a+, a pi4, a couple pi zeros and five pi zero W. This time, I noticed the following errors on the Model B one of the Zeros: Setting up...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4?

I continue to get suggestions from the balena forum, and (with frequent interruptions from non-computer life) I continue to try to follow them. There is such a familiar feel to this - you know that one simple suggestion might make the whole darn thing work, and you keep hoping that the current one i...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4?

I've encountered errors but I'm still pursuing this. It seems like some part of the build is misidentifying the architecture to build for. I 'm getting help from the balena forum, and this particular issue is being referred to higher authorities: "I’ll link this thread to a member of the device supp...

Re: balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4?

If I succeed, I will carefully document the process so others can create a working Etcher from the official source. Although, it would be even better if I could persuade the Etcher folks to do regular builds for the pi and offer the result on their site. After all, they actually know what they're do...

balenaEtcher RUNNING ON a pi4! [WORKING]

(tinker2much - Edited the title 2019/11/22 to reflect @futurejone's [WORKING] solution - see the later posts) I've been playing with my pi4 4GB, trying to make it into a possible daily driver desktop machine. Dual monitor setup resets upon upgrade

I have a pi4 4GB connected to two 1920x1200 monitors. It seems that my configuration is sometimes reset when I do "sudo apt upgrade". I just had to use the "screen configuration" utility again, to change from the monitors being mirrored to them being the two halves of an extended desktop, to swap th...

Wifi device not found on a pi zero W

I have a pi zero W that's running the latest Raspbian Buster. It's regularly updated (once every week or two). I often SSH in - it's set up to be a file server though I'm not actually using it at as such the moment. Within the last week, I couldn't SSH in - didn't know why - put it aside till now. I...

I just installed the recently released version of the Raspberry Pi Desktop - now based on Buster - to the same ex-chromebook and things work great.

Thanks to everyone at the foundation who helps provide this great software.
