Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

... Alex has updated his power page.. https://raspi.tv/2019/how-much-power-does-the-pi4b-use-power-measurements PeterO How accurate are those figures really? Because according to the chart further into the post, the Pi3b and Pi2b use an identical amount of power which we know is not the case. Typo?...

TBH, you might be the only person I know who uses multiple desktops. I always find them very clunky. I'm amazed. I can't do without them. Here's my current desktop ... Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

Has anyone measured the current draw from +5V of the new Pi4 is when it has just booted up and is just sitting there, before any user input? I understand it can draw more power under load, but I am just wondering how the baseline power compares with Pi3 and Pi2. With the smaller process node, could...

Re: Raspbian 'Buster' 2019-06-20 BUG

I've assumed, perhaps wrongly, that the capability had been "disabled" by default, but could be re-instated (by the user) if required. Trev. More "hidden" than disabled. obconf is needed to set the number of desktops, and the desktop pager just needs to be added from the panel applets list. But at ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

Ok, from what I've read so far..... It doesn't boot from USB It doesn't boot from the network So, it only boots from micro SDHC cards At the moment, yes. Those options will be available later. For the time being I've just reverted to having a boot partition on an SD card and root filesystem on my U...

I expect I said so at the time, but this is very short sighted ! And even more so now that the PI4 is capable of running more things at once and is being positioned as a PC replacement, then the lack of multiple desktops looks an even poorer decision. In your opinion; one with which, based on 25-od...

Re: Raspbian 'Buster' 2019-06-20 BUG

In the mean time, the desktop pager's "Desktop Pager Settings" menu doesn't seem to do anything either though I expect the two items are related ? (Does the menu start obconf ?) We don't support multiple desktop switching (it was removed in wheezy) so the tools to support it are not guaranteed to w...

Yes, we froze the image for release last week, but have continued to push patches and fixes to apt in the meantime. If you boot a fresh image, the first boot wizard should pull all the patches in for you. Do you mean the first or second boot ? 1st boot resized the partition... 2nd boot hung before ...

Have you upset the BBC ? They ignore the PI4 and go for https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-48743043

Maybe you should have called it "iPi4" then they would be interested

Re: Weird artifacts on dot matrix display

My experience (in 'C') with 4 x 32x32 modules in series is that you need to put some short delays in to give the data line time to settle before toggling the clock line. // Short delays for bit banging signals. void settleTime(time) { int i; for (i = time; i != 0; --i) { asm(""); // force GCC not to...

Here's a graphical plot of what I am getting. The most notable features are the occasional capture at 600 MHz clock rather than 1.2 GHz (causing everything to be stretched x2) and the rather variable time to the initial transition. Is that the right way round ? Sampling at the lower rate should com...

Way back near the start of the "challenge" I posted an Algol-60 version. Re: irritating battery limits

@imperf3kt You'd better stick to areas where you know what you are talking about. Balancing is for rechargeable lithium cells in series. You must be careful when charging cells in parallell as well, if the voltages aren't close you will permanently damage one or more batteries in the parallell setu...
