Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

The WiFi firmware can also be found here: https://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/pool/main/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-brcm80211_20161130-3+rpt3_all.deb Open the deb with archive manager and extract the contents to the appropriate folder. This will save you the time downloading a raspbian image. Th...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

Beautiful man! :)

I agree with you ref an image - now we have a complete instruction set it's straight-forward to get this going assuming you have a linux system to be able to manipulate the SD card files on the ext4 partition. Thanks for all the help and supports, truly appreciated.

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

Well done BluPI2 and washy. So not a waste of time after all! I'm sure a lot of people will be grateful for the effort you've both put in. You'll want to update and upgrade the packages: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade This will sort out anything that is missing or needs updating (lik...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

See 'systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service' for details What about doing exactly that and posting the output in a code block here? Uploading dmesg to an online pasteboard service would be a good idea too: dmesg | curl -F 'f:1=<-' http://ix.io The keyboard don't work and I couldn't get SSH w...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

The keyboard and mouse didn't work for me until I transferred over the modules. Did you transfer the new folder into /lib/modules ? Unfortunately, yes, I copied them - I do see a kernel failure in the boot sequence but its beyond my ability to figure that out I think. As a last resort I formatted a...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

I finally have success! Ubuntu Mate 16.04 is now booting and everything seems to be working as it should. The only thing that isn't working atm is the built-in wifi. I plugged in a nano usb wifi adapter and problem solved :D I downloaded the latest version of Raspbian and mounted the .img file, the...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

In reply to a comment above, that booting a Pi is real hard, I'd have to say that booting a Pi with the official OS is really easy. Image SD card, boot. It really is that simple. Booting the Pi with third party OS is almost always just as easy, except when a new model comes out and the third partie...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

Changing the root=/dev/mmcblk0p7 to 2 in the cmdline.txt got it past that error showed the splash screen booting into the gui and then black screened me - re-imaging the card again now for another go maybe I didnt need to copy all the things across that I had done.

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

Some progress, I've copied across from the working raspbian boot partition :- bootcode.bin bcm2710-rpi-3-b-plus.dtb kernel7.img start.elf start_cd.elf start_db.elf start_x.elf And from the root partition the folders and contents /lib/modules/4.9.80+ /lib/modules/4.9.80-v7+ That gets the ubuntu mate ...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

You also need kernel7.img and /lib/modules/*-v7+ to get a bootable kernel. I've copied the dtb, the 4.9.80-v7+ modules folder from a working rasbian SD card and the kernel7 and I still get stuck at the rainbow screen with a lightning bolt. Is there a config file needing updating to tell it to use t...

Re: Ubuntu image for the new Raspberry Pi 3 B+

You also need kernel7.img and /lib/modules/*-v7+ to get a bootable kernel. Sorry for the noobish first post - I've spent the past 5 hrs formatting and reformatting cards trying to make this work on a 3B+ (i.e. ubuntu-mate), those 5 hrs are my first 5 with a Pi, so bare with me! I've found and copie...
