Re: Ubuntu Mate booting problem

Hello So sorry. I cannot download from utorrent file. If it is possible, i want to get direct link from personal message. The torrent should still work but I stopped hosting the files. Ubuntu Mate 18.04 and 18.10 were released and I feel it would be of more use to the overall community if people as...

Re: Ubuntu Mate 18.04???

Hello mrdone, I do not think that WiFi works in Ubuntu on the Pi3B+. I have read that WiFi works in Raspbian on the 3B+ but I have not tried it. I have also read, I think, that some wireless related files could be copied from a Raspbian install to Ubuntu to fix the problem. I have not tried this ei...

Maybe you're interested in Lineage OS for Raspberry Pi? Android, no time limit.

Re: Which language for tone generator

Seems I can't hear 12.5KHz anymore :( Are you sure your speakers can play 12.5K? I can comfortably hear it on my studio speakers, barely hear it on my iPhone/iPad and can't hear it at all on a pair of old dusty HiFi speakers. Anyhow, speech range ends around 8K, so worst case scenario you don't hea...

@Heater (and everyone else of course): I have had significant progress with the Web Audio API and made a working demo: www.frequencytrainer.com (hosted on a Raspberry Pi of course). Thanks again for the suggestion! perhaps ? on the server try faust https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAUST_(programming_la...

Thanks MaxVMH, I trust that as you have a USB image these images are suitable for the 3B+ ? I am pulling the torrent now for the SD card and will give it a try. Thanks again, Ken I just realized it's Ubuntu Mate 16.04 for the 3B+, not 18.04. Sorry if I wasted your time  I suggest you head ove...

Re: Worth buying it ?

You don't really need it to do what you want to achieve - web development, coding python and installing linux can be done on any computer, but if you want to learn a bit about Linux it's fun to be able to do it on another device (if u mess something up or can't find something you can use your 'norma...

Re: Ubuntu Mate 18.04???

If you just want to try it out, I made images (EDIT: of Ubuntu Mate 16.04) last April to test some stuff, I haven't used them since so YMMV, use at own risk, updating may break the OS, etc. ... I don't recommend using them for anything important. This one is for SD cards This one is for USB drives (...

Or get down and use the browser Web audio API directly: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Audio_API That's the option I'm going for. I don't know why, but I like to keep things as 'vanilla' as possible. Here is my first result. This plays a 400Hz sine wave 1 second after opening ...

Re: Which language for tone generator

I'm afraid I may have sent you down a rabbit hole of investigation and experiment that may take a lot of time before you reach a solution. That started around the time I bought my first Raspberry Pi :) Now it's time to put my nose in some JavaScript - I hope this time my attempt at learning it goes...

Re: Which language for tone generator

No doubt one can find all kind of libraries to save generated waveforms in any sound file format. I don’t necessarily want to save them, it’s just for playback. If I could generate them client-side / in the browser, I assume that would save me some bandwidth. Perhaps choice of language might be inf...

Do you want to create and audiofile that the client downloads or do you want to play the sound ?
And if you want to play it.. should it be played by the client/browser or by the Pi ?
It should be played in the client / browser.

@MaxVMH Thank you for posting your Ubuntu disc image. Can I ask why it's so large? Over 7 GB? Just curious what I would be installing. I too want Ubuntu on a Pi 3 B+. Cheers! That's the size of the flash drive I used to make the image, I didn't shrink the image afterwards - so it's basically 4GB 's...

Which language for tone generator

Objective: I'd like to make a website that can generate (and playback) certain audio frequencies . I already know some HTML / CSS / PHP but I don't think this will do the job. The files can be generated serverside (Raspberry Pi) or clientside (browser), as long as I don't have to make them beforehan...

Re: Why is raspbian bad choice for 24/7 iot?

But your gut is right, Raspbian is not that good for IoT as it comes. Why? What are problems with Raspbian except the inability to make a good UI? Not problems per se. Raspbian is not the fastest or lightest OS for the RPi. It’s not the graphically best looking OS for the RPi. However, Raspbian is ...

Re: Does pi 3b plus need heatsinks

Hi all, Does a Pi 3B plus need heatsinks and a fan for fairly normal use (Coding, Retropie, etc)? Cheers T No. It will throttle when it gets pushed too hard so it should never overheat. So it is safe without heatsink and/or fan. Some people decided to make/install heatsinks and fans to avoid thrott...

If TS wants to be able to view/edit data in a browser, I suggest learning some basic PHP and log the data using cronjobs. Then use phpPgAdmin (a web based PostgreSQL database manager in PHP) to view/edit the data. But that's my suggestion because I'm familiar with some basic PHP ... The same can be ...

Re: configuring multiple virtual hosts in apache2

I appreciate that on the pi, the virtual host declarations are created in individual .conf file under /etc/apache1/sites-enabled. You should create them in /etc/apache 2 /sites-available (eg. /etc/apache2/sites-available/nameofthewebsite.conf) and enable them with (this will create an alias in /etc...
