Re: Ethernet Green Light is Not Working

Though a bit off-topic

I strongly recommend you encase your RPi in a non-metallic case....
....to prevent those accidental shorts....
...thereby rendering your RPi being KIA.

Yup, wait for it, as you got the original RPF touchscreen, better set it up with the RPF Power supply.....

Re: System start up

Welcoming me. I would also download Etcher from https://www.balena.io/etcher/ to create the SD image from the file you are downloading. This will save you having to unzip the file, format the SD card and then copy the data. ....and time in installing, specially if you are in connected to "slow inte...

Re: Strange forums...

OK thanks for the tip.

Tried the other 2 settings, the forum somehow looses it's "character image" specially with the prosilver setting.
the third is a bit "over decorated" for my taste.

so I returned it to the default setting.....

Re: Difference in RASPBIAN STRETCH WITH DESKTOP and RASPBIAN STRETCH LITE.

TL/DR
Maybe an "odd" question related to the topic

If I connect via ssh (ssh only), to any RPi running raspbian, how will I know if the installed raspbian is "Lite" or "Desktop" version.
is there a command to reveal the which version?

Re: How do you name your Pies?

Most of my RPi's naming convention follow my usual Prefix + RPi Series + (optional) Job type + Series number. format

In some "special use-case" the names some of my RPi servers are based on some "famous computers", like the ones in:

1. the Evangelion anime series
2. some sci-fi movies

Re: Background Hiss from Audio jack

So, for both of us, it seems our problem is the Pi causing interference on the PSU which is then making its way to the audio amp connected to the same PSU. If the OP's PC speakers are USB powered; it's probably worth trying mains-powered speakers. If they are mains-powered maybe try a different pai...

Re: Background Hiss from Audio jack

I encountered this on any amp sharing the same power supply with the RPi (either taking from the USB port, or from a split in the microUSB cable line). clamping some ferrite cores to the power line and both sides of the audio line did "attenuate" the hiss and crackles, but still there. Using separat...

Re: How do I keep my Pi clean?

My RPi3B (and RPi3B+) case before were laminated acrylic case with fan. And as mentioned by other forum members, the fan does blow in dust to the heatsink and the board itself. I clean it once every 6 months, specially before the summer months sets in. To clean it I had to open it up (of course), th...

Re: A better raspian 4 pi zero

for RPiZero series (or BCM2835 equipped RPi's for that matter) its better to run headless using Raspbian Lite. and better use image file flashed using Etcher (not use NOOBS, PINN or other variants) as most of my RPiZ, RPiZW are running headless (volumio, MotionEye, etc) I do have some RPiZW, RPiA+ a...

Re: SD card vs USB stick: best secondary storage for sudden shutdowns projects

Me I'd prefer the USB stick... but a better one is to prevent data corruption (whether microSD or any other media for that matter) by preventing sudden power cut-off (which will be the main culprit). and one way to do that is to add some sort of UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system, giving ampl...

The warning in rpi-update actually comes fro mthe firmware repo, https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/blob/master/NOTICE.md. I suppose a PR with appropriate changes might work.
