Re: Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

Obviously this forum is nothing but a vent for frustrated RPi customers dealing with amateur support. This is not the first time this lack of supply has happened with a previous RPi release and apparently no one learned from that time how to run a technology business. The recommended list of supplie...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

For more madness, why not add Target, Best Buy, and Amazon.com to your distribution list. That's just as misleading as the suppliers listed with no products to sell. Even Adafruit has no product. Crazy.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

I just received an email from OKDO indicating that my RPi4B/4GB model has been shipped from their UK Warehouse. If the other distributors can't ship until September, why are they listed on the official RPF vendor page? Fake news?

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

Maybe someone should open the "HIDDEN" forum so we might better understand how mismanaged these products are. How would anyone learn that the 2 and 4GB models are manufactured by someone other than RPF? Here's what a search results provided: Search found 0 matches: who manufactures 4B 4GB model Sear...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

@jamesh You made a lot of assumptions in there, mostly wrong. The 3b Chromium problem is memory related, not much to do about that. Chromium and the web are memory hogs. The graphics driver is improved greatly in Buster, and afaik there are no longer any memory leaks. edit: Just a FYI, we have a hid...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

That quite the leap of imagination to say its the Pi product managers with the problem. Could be anywhere in the supply chain. AFAIK, the guys here have been working very hard to allocate the production equitably, both to larger and small distributors. We are making over 15k a day, sbut even at tha...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

Thanks for the response HawaiianPi. I failed to include the 4GB model in this post. I ordered the 4B on the release date and had expected ship date of 6/28. That date slipped three times before I was told today my order would not be fulfilled until September and the initial products had not yet ship...

Raspberry Pi 4B in USA

Where can I get a Raspberry Pi 4B in the United States? I've ordered from 2 companies and now they say it will be September. That's after lying and saying it would ship the first part of July. What happened to my order and where can I get it sooner? This Raspberry Pi 3B+ can barely run the Raspbian ...

Re: Turning LCD backlight off on rpi4/buster with dpms

I have found that on RPi3B+ the `xset dpms ### ### ###` works until changing the default user from pi to another name. Therefore, I do not think this is hardware related. It appears to be a bug in the `usermod` code. Is there a workaround or should this be reported as an issue for tracking? I would ...

Re: VC4 and Mesa Drivers Update Plan

Yes, we tried ALARM and the results were the same with memory leaks, roughly 10K per hour over about 4 hours. The kernel and mesa versions you reported are accurate. I've heard things might change next week and would like to know if there is anything we can do to prepare for the release, like make t...

Raspberry Pi 3A+ Touchscreen Tablet Success

I would like to report a success story that might help others trying something similar. What I created from the parts list below is a battery operated Raspberry Pi (RPi) 3A+ with UPS HAT that allows the tablet to be mobile to navigate a similarly configured RPi rover. What I've written below is not ...

Re: VC4 and Mesa Drivers Update Plan

@cjan, we have tried everything we possibly can but are not aware how to try "kernel-4.19 & mesa-18.3.4." We're looking for ways to do that. Can you point us in the right direction? Like I said, we tried compiling the drivers but cannot get them to load. Any tutorials or instructions how to do that ...

Re: VC4 and Mesa Drivers Update Plan

I spent the first half of 2018 migrating my Android 4.4.2 SlideShow app, written in Python and using Kivy UI module, that I first reported a problem with the Kivy screenmanager memory leaks, originally posted in this thread. This leak prevents my app from running more than a minute before crashing a...

Correction. My previous post worked for a few times then stopped working. Then an associate offered the link below and it has continued to work consistently, although the UI is slightly different than the Mate desktop. At least we have a solution. https://www.tweaking4all.com/software/linux-software...

Re: How to upgrade to Ubuntu MATE 18.04 on the Raspberry Pi

Thank you very much for these instructions. I successfully upgraded from Mate 16 to 18.04. Perfect timing. Mate 16 had old drivers that 18 has but I couldn't get 18 to install until I found these instructions! One note: xrdp needs to be fixed following the Mate 18 install. Below is a link that worke...

Opening a brick and mortar store in Orlando

I am curious if it is possible to open a brick and mortar store to sell Raspberry Pi products. I know there will be a price difference due to overhead costs but it sounds like a good idea to have physical product to show and sell. I searched online but there doesn't appear to be any stores with merc...

Re: VC4 and Mesa Drivers Update Plan

Yesterday, I ran ubuntu mate on my RPi 3B and it appears their VC4/Mesa drivers work. I tested using the screenmanagertest.py code and it ran for an hour and never locked up or crashed. So, it appears ubuntu has the right drivers. Is there any way for raspbian to release the right drivers or can I h...

Re: VC4 and Mesa Drivers Update Plan

Thanks 6by9 for your response. If what I wrote is confusing, I apologize because I'm new to this environment and may be out of context with reality. What we're trying to accomplish is to get Kivy's screenmanager to work with transitions and to stop crashing RPi. In our research into the symptoms, we...
