Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

I'd say it was a regular case. Just a very well designed one. Looking at the one I have here, the LCD cable and camera cables have exits, and there is an available slot to get a GPIO ribbon cable out should you so wish. Indeed, there is a slot provided for a GPIO ribbon cable, but do you know of a ...

Re: Fan failure?

You might want to just look into a Flirc case ($20 with shipping). The top half is all aluminium and acts as a big heat sink(no fan and none needed). For anything pre Pi4 they are more than enough case to keep it cool. For the Pi4 they are right on the edge, for moderate use they are fine. I endors...

Re: Access to GPIO connector in a Flirc Case

What about something like this https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity-AMP/3-87456-5?qs=sGAEpiMZZMs%252BGHln7q6pm7F1NlCFAzwfeva7z7Ehuec%3D Found by googling "2x20 2.54 female" You'd have to attach your own wires, but the connection itself is very slim. That looks like a ganged connecto...

Re: Access to GPIO connector in a Flirc Case

There's a FAQ on the Flirc RPi 4 case page where question 9 specifically adresses the gpio ribbon cable issue: I'm having trouble fitting a standard IO Cable for the Connectors, do you have a recommendation? Yes, this one works perfectly fine: https://octopart.com/search?q=IDSD-20-D-06.00 I haven't...

Re: Pi 4 hangs on boot when 2 displays connected

So to cut a long story short, if your Pi 4 hangs on boot when 2 displays are connected, try a different micro SD card. The cards are different brands, the cheaper of the two is the one that allows the dual displays to work. It seems highly improbable (but not impossible, I grant) that the make or s...

Re: Access to GPIO connector in a Flirc Case

I confirm this on the RPi3B+ version of the FLIRC case (just took mine from storage to verify pfletch101's concern) in my measurement, the 40-pin ribbon connector's length is about 55.5mm (correct me on this), while the pillar to pillar widest distance is 53mm so definitely a 40-pin ribbon connecto...

Not wanting to derail the discussion but this article maybe of interest even just to prove it is possible in some cases just to use the beat rate https://techlector.com/apple-watch-detects-heart-attack/ Maybe start with green led heartbeat sensors (search photoplethysmography) and go from there - a...

Re: Creating an heart attack detector

Just as a matter of interest, while being tested for other things, I was asked to wear a 24-hour monitoring device. It appeared to record ... something ... during that 24 hours, from a couple of electrodes taped to my chest. Quite what they thought about my heart stopping for a couple of hours I do...

or sit down and get ready. Though if you could do it through a small compact smart device people may wear... Probably not. For any degree of reliability in analyzing ECGs for ischemia, you need at least a limited array of electrodes across the chest - not just something worn or attached to a single...

Re: Creating an heart attack detector

I wonder if there is possible to predict the heart attack a few seconds or maybe minutes in advance? There are reasonably specific ECG changes that indicate myocardial ischemia (marginal oxygen supply to the heart), which can be the forerunner of a 'heart attack' (usually caused by inadequate oxyge...

Re: RPi 2 has better connectivity than RPi4?

I bought a RPi4 on it's release day, I've performed all the updates and even the rpi-update to get the latest firmware release. I've been struggling with connectivity issues since day one and it's getting progressively worse. I edited the .conf file that switches the power management off for wlan0,...

Re: Is it possible to power off a monitor when the RPi is powered off?

Not without additional hardware. Additional hardware would be fine, I have plenty of room for additional hardware. I just need to be able to power it off and on with computer since the monitor will be enclosed in a case where I won't generally have access to the power button without opening up the ...

Access to GPIO connector in a Flirc Case

I have my Pi 4b-4 in a Flirc Case, which solves the heating issue which the Pi 4 otherwise suffers from. However, at some time in the future, I will probably want access to the board's GPIO connections, and this is proving a bit challenging. The Flirc case has a narrow cutout in its base positioned ...

Re: Pi 3 - Thermostat Wiring Issue

Actually, there IS a reason to expect all HVAC systems to be wired the same since it's an industry standard. And the skills required to wire up a thermostat IS considered to be part of a mere mortal's tool kit. Again, that may be a reasonable assumption in the USA. It is certainly NOT reasonable in...

Re: When are people in the U.S. getting their Pi 4s?

Newark is Farnell who are one of the main manufacturers for RPi boards. Good luck removing preferred vendor status from them. If they are manufacturing them, you would think that they might have a better idea of when they would have them in stock! I cancelled my order (from June 29) a week or so ag...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

I remember there were some plans to reduce (idle) power consumption with software changes to the DRAM controller or the graphics driver. Are we going to see anything in this regard any time soon? And what happened to the VLI firmware update, are there any further updates coming out? If you have any...

If not, I normally put commands at the end of the file with one or more comment lines giving the reason why I have added the line(s). Hi,The power supply came from an approved re-seller as part of a kit, so I hoped that it was fit for purpose. My intention is to buy an official supply just as soon as they are back in stock with an Australian plug. My first Pi setup (3B) was bought "from an approved re-seller as part of a kit", an...

Re: Continuity between 3.3v pins and 5v pins

You shouldn't be doing continuity checks between those pins. The voltage in your continutity checker WILL shoot your RPi dead (and may have already done so). I thought those things operated between 1v and 3.3v I think you're right, but I think that Dougie's caution is nonetheless justified. You sho...
