Re: resize SSD partition

I use "patch-rc". It makes raspi-config work on an SSD. A bonus for me is that pishrink auto-expand also works after applying it.

Search the forum for it.

Xarchiver Context Menu - Solved

When I remove xarchiver, the right click context menus for it remain. I have searched for and followed everything I can find about Raspbian context menus and cannot find where xarchiver puts them. Any ideas where this information is stored? Thanks *Latest Buster - 4b2g* Edit: If I understand this co...

Re: NVMe Enclosures

If the drive will move between PC and Pi, then then it makes since. It will - thus my interest. I have a M.2 NGFF enclosure but when burning an image to it from my PC, it is way slower than the Sabrent/OCZ setup. The Sabrent/OCZ will burn the Raspbian Buster with desktop image in about 24 seconds -...

NVMe Enclosures

My current Sabrent cable and OCZ SSD require the "quirks" entry to work on USB 3. It also causes me to have to use an extension cable for my wireless mouse to work. I have another USB 3 drive that does NOT require the "quirks" entry and does NOT interfere with my wireless mouse. It's a WD spinning h...

Re: STICKY: If you have a Raspberry Pi 4 and are getting bad speeds transferring data to/from USB3.0 SSDs, read this

I seem to have a mouse problem after applying this. I also have a Sabrent idVendor=152d, idProduct=1561 but with an old 60GB OCZ SSD. I didn't record my speeds, but the bottom number was ~30 on USB2 and jumped to ~260 on USB3 after applying the quirk. However, my Logitech wireless mouse will not wor...

Re: Pi 4 WiFi Troubles

Update: I ran rpi-update to install the latest experimental kernel and my 5g connection started working perfectly. I restored my backed up "normal" image expecting the same problem and to my surprise 5g now works perfectly on it. Did a clean install of everything - still perfect. Did the experimenta...

Re: Pi 4 WiFi Troubles

The problem is that with 5 ghz disabled on the router the Pi connects to the 2.4 ghz fine. Turn the 5 ghz back on and the Pi will only connect around 1 out of 15 boots. It sees the SSID just doesn't connect. I also noticed when it does connect to 5 ghz, that the Pi indicates such but the router show...

Re: Pi 4 WiFi Troubles

After much ado I have found the problem - 5g WiFi.

Is there anyway to disable 5g or am I going to have to figure out how to block it on the router just for the Pi so that my other 5g devices can still use 5g?

Re: Pi 4 WiFi Troubles

dmesg.zip I don't see anything - dmesg output attached. My router is both 2.4 and 5g. My Pi 3+ only connects on 2.4 but this Pi 4 had been connecting on 5. 2.4 channel is set to auto, 5 channel is 153. Edit: The dmesg output is while booting on a USB SSD, though when I did the "untouched image" I m...

Pi 4 WiFi Troubles

Received my new Pi 4 2gb a few days ago but the cord wasn't long enough. I did play with it long enough to see everything worked fine and was really impressed with the speed. Received a micro to hdmi adapter today so I could use my original cable. Hooked up and all was fine. A couple reboots later a...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

Couple questions on this subject - 1. Scenario - RP4 with updated EEPROM after the USB boot capability release - Will that update make it boot from USB forevermore (unless EEPROM is changed)? In other words, if I burn a fresh image to a USB drive will it boot right up or would there be a procedure r...

Controlling Initial Auto-expand in Buster

I have done the following since I switched from an SD card to an SSD to control the size of the expansion: Changed: TARGET_END=$((ROOT_DEV_SIZE - 1)) to TARGET_END=$((ROOT_DEV_SIZE / 100 \* 7)) in init_resize.sh so my SSD is only expanded to 7% of its size. That line still exists in Buster's init_re...

Thanks for the info.

I guess I'm more visually impaired than I thought I was because I never saw it's shortcut in the menu until after starting this thread. I figured it was something to do with me beings I couldn't find a post with anyone else talking about it

VLC Installed as an Update?

I am curious why VLC is being installed when I run

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
It happened last week. I just had a problem and restored my rPi from a saved image and when I updated VLC was installed again.

Change Log Elaboration

From the 2018-10-09 changelog:

Code: Select all

* Add ability to prevent software update changing configuration files, by creating ~/.config/.lock file
Could someone elaborate on what this means and how to implement it?

Thanks

Re: Duplicate an image using Win32DiskImager doesn't work

I have not used the built in SD card copier, but I assume it just copies from one card to another. If you want to have a file copy of the image to burn to a card at will, use pishrink. It will shrink the image you have already made so that it will go back on any card regardless of the small differen...

I thought I had seen how to do this before but have searched several times now to no avail. Good catch! I didn't know there were two different PiShrinks. My comment is referring to the one you have linked to which I linked to in my lost post.
