Re: Baking Pi Update List

Thank everyone for your assistance! I've been studying the information that you guys have given me and I will continue to do so as I begin. I should be able to finally get somewhere I can get an SD card today, so hopefully I'll be assembling shortly. I guess I'm less sure about how I want to proceed...

Re: Please Help - Need Assembler for Pi 3b on Mac OS X

BTW, mounting a RAID array is not a good example of 'Linux'. It's one tiny bit of it that is actually quite complicated. It's good to know that's not as easy as I thought it should be. I managed to build the array but never got it visible in my file system. I tried asking Linux users for help and t...

Re: Baking Pi Update List

Not sure why you want to use assembler it is hard work the opcode set is extremely complex. If you can write in C/C++ you would be wise to just kick the processor in assembler and write in that and let the compiler worry about the opcodes which is what most do. I'm actually more comfortable in asse...

Re: Please Help - Need Assembler for Pi 3b on Mac OS X

I'll try Raspbian. I've had bad experiences with Linux in the past so I'm apprehensive about trying it again but hopefully this time is more productive.

That one is outdated and doesn't target ARMv8-A.

Thank you for trying though.

Re: Please Help - Need Assembler for Pi 3b on Mac OS X

I'm not afraid of bare metal programming. I've done plenty of bare metal assembly for 6502. But there's a difference between being challenging, and being frustratingly esoteric. It seems extremely unrealistic to me that one could learn Linux in half a day, because I know I've spent at least an entir...

Re: Please Help - Need Assembler for Pi 3b on Mac OS X

I appreciate you trying to help, but that is not the answer I was looking for. I don't see why it's unreasonable to be able to use my current computer to output files for Pi. I do not wish to learn Linux. I thought this was going to be a fun project, but when trying to install an assembler causes pa...

Re: Please Help - Need Assembler for Pi 3b

Probably just type "which as" or whatever MacOS uses. If you just type "as" (or perhaps "gas") it will try to read the assembler from the standard input. as is found but gas is not. I believe as is the one that comes with Xcode and I think it's only capable of targeting iPhones and iPads. I've trie...

Re: Please Help - Need Assembler for Pi 3b

Do you have "as" on the mac ? Its used for assembling the output from GCC if nothing else, and perhaps tell it to target the Pi with ".arch armv8-a" I honestly have no clue. Do you know how I would tell? I've attempted to install a thousand acronyms through terminal over the past couple days and I ...

Please Help - Need Assembler for Pi 3b on Mac OS X

I have tried numerous tutorials to build a cross compiler for my Pi on Mac OS X and every one has ended in failure. I do not use Linux and I am not an expert on terminal instructions. I can copy/paste commands to terminal, and I can understand enough to type "brew install x", but when every instruct...

Baking Pi Update List

Hello!

I'm looking to get started with bare metal assembly programming for Raspberry Pi 3b. Is there a thread here or otherwise listing updates to the information contained in this tutorial for current hardware and assemblers?

Thank you!

SNES bot Beginner Project

Hello Pi Forum! I have always been intimidated by the thought of hardware design, but I've decided to jump in and build an SNES bot as described in this thread here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60778 At first, I didn't understand anything in that thread, but I read and reread ...

Re: Raspberry Pi SNESBot

Hello, Sonny_Jim!

I would like to create a project like this and I wondered if you ever had completed schematics for the second version of the board.

Thank you!
