Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

To ShiftPlusOne, If the author has said the same thing like you just did I would have done it in a heartbeat. It perfectly fits those in situation like mine now, why waste another sd card when the usb can be on its own? When I read about it, it was like reading a bible to me. Everything was like for...

Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

It is risky because it is a One Time Programmable memory deal. Looks like it is not reversible if later one changed his/her mind. I read the instruction here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/bootmodes/msd.md My track record of flashing memory like this is not very good...

Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

To ShiftPlusOne, Thank you very much for your instruction. Things like that are spontaneously coming out of your head but for me it is a world of difference. Certain thing that you said in a phrase or even word could potentially take me days to google and digest. At least now I have a starting point...

Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

To ShiftPlusOne, I conclude that your instruction works beautifully. You are the man. I have finished the update/upgrade -> reboot -> some installation -> reboot and all of the Wlan0 + Bluetooth + Audio are still there to stay. Even though the problem is fixed I am still baffled with the method/conc...

Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

Hi ShiftPlusOne, After following your instruction there are many new things start to change. This time I decided to start the whole thing from scratch (re-flash the fresh Stretch image again) to study the nature of how this process work so that I don’t have to run around asking for questions like I ...

To ShiftPlusOne,

After follow your instruction it looks very promising. Wlan0, audio, and bluetooth are all back for business immediately. Please allow me a few more hours to test drive it. Will be back with conclusion. Thank you very much for the privilege of your time.

Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

To ShiftPlusOne, I think you are very good. You might have found the reason which I also suspected this morning but I am no way near your skill to know what to investigate. Here is what happened. I used to run Raspbian on a SD card in headless mode. After a while I could no longer successfully compl...

Just one more thing. If you notice the audio and Bluetooth icon. It appears to me that upgrade has done something not only to the wifi but also the bluetooth and audio too. Only God knows what has happened. Cheers.

Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

You are right this is kinda weird. I just put the same Stretch image onto a corrupted SD card and it was able to boot up with the wlan0 flawlessly out of the box from the same Pi3. I even attempted to set dhcpcd.conf with these: interface eth0 static ip_address=192.168.1.190/24 static routers=192.16...

Re: wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

I am running Stretch of my usb which is SanDisk on the list. This is the only usb device plugged into my pi3. I am not using any usb wifi. I am only looking for solution to make the pi's internal wifi work ( the built-in wifi). Are you sure that the internal wifi's driver is the firmware-realtek? Fo...

wlan0 disappears after Stretch 2017-09-07

RealVNC Screen too small with Stretch on Pi3

I have been using Pi3 for 2 years with Jessie. My setup is headless and primarily use RealVNC to communicate with the Pi. From a fresh image installation I always got a small screen resolution. But with some little tweak on the /boot/config.txt as so: hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080 hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mo...

Re: Remote desktop (xrdp) on stretch: Some menu items do not work

IMO RealVNC is the way forward, it is the original VNC, they worked with the RPF to optimise their product, and they offer good support: https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/docs/raspberry-pi.html https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/get-back-to-my-pi-from-anywhere-with-vnc-connect/ I think I like RealVN...

Re: Can't USB boot (with SD card) anymore!

Now that you're running from the USB drive, you should be able to check and (possibly) repair the corrupted 16 GB SD card. Place the SD card in a USB adapter and plug it into the running RPi. Use blkid to determine its device name (it should be /dev/sdb). Use df to make sure it's not mounted (umoun...

Re: Can't USB boot (with SD card) anymore!

I am in the same situation like Mo3tasm, however I am using Raspbian version 2017-09-07 and I insisted on using USB with SD because I don't want to modify the irreversible OTP. In the cmdline.txt on the SD card I have: root=/dev/sda1 ---> no longer working as it used to. root=PARTUUID=be705999-02 --...
