16x2 Character LCD

Dear All, I have bought and successfully soldered this 16x2 display from Adafruit, and very fine it is too. My problem is that I am not much of a coder and I am scrabbling about to get some sample code that I can tinker with. Scrolling text, blinking, displaying some output from commands, that type ...

Re: Apt-get woes

OK, it was a firewall thing. The Pi needed to bypass the in-line filtering mechanism. Sorted. Thanks for the help.

Scrolling Text

Hi,

Does anyone know of software that will scroll text across the screen? Like a message board.

Many thanks,

Ben.

Re: Farnell or RS - who will ship first, more problem free?

I am having an experience with RS at the moment with regards returning my Pi. One of the USB prots was not working, and I had to send it back. With Farnell, they send you a replacement before you send the duff one back. RS on the other hand, have you fill in a downloadable form, then you post it bac...

Me too. Had to send it back to RS, at my own expense. Grrrrr. Now to wait. Again.

Does your pi simply not recognise your keyboard, or does it matter which USB port it is connected to?

<t>Just to update on my experience so far, RS customer services were helpful and friendly, but the returns policy is well behind the experience had by others who ordered from Farnell.<br/> <br/> Whereas mooman1000 had a working Pi on his desk before he sent his faulty one off, RS require you to down...

Re: USB Port problems?

<t>You know I think you are right. Looking up "device descriptor read/64, error -32", sounds as if it could be hardware. Mine came from RS, and their returns policy is a bit basic. You need to download a form, and send it back. I am just waiting confirmation that they have some in stock for replacem...

<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> My problem does not seem to be with the device, but maybe I'm wrong. When any device is plugged into the bottom USB port, it does not work. Well, if anyone is mad/stupid enough to buy one at £240, when the value of the unit is £35 with delivery when the supply has caught up, they are welcome to it!

Re: Farnell order moved out!

You are right. They are worth waiting for. And the success is fantastic. Although some of us have been waiting for over a year and are getting a bit bored with waiting. So it's understandable that frustration is now bubbling up to the surface.

Ozzy's pdf's are really good. Think revision guide kind of layout. If you were printing it out it would be far better in terms of layout than simply printing the wikipedia pages.

I agree with Werecatf. It's hardly a consumer device is it? If you want Angry Birds, may I suggest an episode of Eastenders? Otherwise the normal repos should be OK.

Re: Let them eat Pi

<t>Certainly are a few here that have said they should have the Pi instead of others, as they are going to develop for the Pi, rather than use it as a media player. But, let's face it, they are not going to cure cancer on it, or design a rocket ship to take us to Mars. They need a bit of perspective...

Great practical case. Without wishing to hijack, where did you get your dimensions? I have looked at various FAQ's with no joy.

Re: Dimentions

Hi there,

Do we know what the final dimensions are? It would be handy to know as a case could be designed, and printed on a 3D printer ready for launch. Also designs could be shared for people like me with enthusiasm but little aptitude!

Many thanks,

Ben.
