Re: Can't quite find the answer I'm looking for...

Well... I tried the straight forward technique and soldered a 7805 (largish heatsink) from the 12v supply, then inline to a usb hub. Now at first the Pi powered up but then started randomly resetting itself, I'm guessing as the 7805 got hotter I was drawing less amps? Anyhow, found this bad boy that...

Re: Can't quite find the answer I'm looking for...

Thanks but if you go over my original post, it's not about having or not having a hub but only having ONE power cable coming out the carry case so a model b or b+ is completely academic as the external drive I have is a 3.5 so has a 12v psu. I'll dismantle the enclosure and see if I can jockey off t...

Re: Can't quite find the answer I'm looking for...

Cheers Doug,

Do you mean these?

http://www.brchobbies.co.uk/catalog/pro ... cts_id=821

And would I just solder these to the power points of the hdd enclosure and then have these wired to the hub and then he gpio on the Pi?

Can't quite find the answer I'm looking for...

hi guys! Just a quick one; I have a wicked little case that happens to have space for my Pi, a3.5 inch external drive and a powered hub. My question is this; can we pull 5v from the usb hard drive psu to power the hub, and in turn, the Pi? I'd only have 1 power plug then..... Would I have to look at...

Re: Model B, USB no longer working...

I was using the same cable. Tried another and it's perfect.

I never thought this a issue as they both work on the htc phone we have.

All is good, I'm happy again!

Model B, USB no longer working... (solved)

Guys, I've been running raspbmc for ages now, and all of a sudden, the USB ports are no longer working. I have tried with a new noobs image, installed raspbmc perfectly, but still no usb. I tried just the keyboard, and during setup it appeared to be ok, then nothing afterwards. Is it just a glitch c...

Re: Raspbmc, a N00b and a whole heap of help needed

The .db files can be found in userdata/Database.... I have looked and looked via ftp (filezilla) and i cannot see the userdata folder - which is the parent folder? This is really starting to annoy me now. Every post or link i read says to use the 'rm ./ blah blah command to delete the addons**.db f...

Re: Raspbmc, a N00b and a whole heap of help needed

Not sure what the problem is with regards to the other posts, but I have tried looking around google/xbmc wiki etc, I know I need to delete the addons**.db file, it's FINDING the file via FTP I'm having trouble with. I can access via terminal on my mac and via FTP, I just needed a heads up as to its...

I can stream hd media with my wifi dongle, so why would it not shows add ons? Surely if the sub protocol and internet browser is working, there's nothing stopping the pi from working?

Re: Raspbmc, a N00b and a whole heap of help needed

1) I believe you can copy them anywhere, and simply install them via the themes/addons menu 2) Double check that the LAN connectors on the pi are connected properly 1. I'll try a random folder, thanks 2. It's connected to the network via wifi, and even hard wired it's till blank... Any other possib...

Raspbmc, a N00b and a whole heap of help needed

Hiya folks, I've finally got my Pi set up as I wanted; a kick-ass media centre. I have a couple questions though that I can't find direct answers to on g00gl3 or xmbc sites. I wanted to change the theme from confluence to quartz; now i have the quartz files, but even through ftp i cant figure out th...

No sound through HDMI, but fine on other tv

Guys, I have just hooked up the pi (filled with raspbmc) and on my tv downstairs, it plays video and sound perfectly, but has its own power supply. Just tried the upstairs tv (lg 19 inch) and picture is hd but no sound, regardless of what I mess with. Also, I notice confluence doesn't have a volume ...

Re: Hick question about power feedback

Cheers guys, you've actually answered my question; I'll use the 5v powered hub. What I did do last night though was to use a power supply (proper pi one) to power up, and then on the powered hub, I took out the 5v and ground wires so the cable can't back feed any power to the pi, but is still feedi...

Hick question about power feedback

I guys, I have been lurking around and looking into the above, and just wanted to clarify something I read: I have a rev 2 board from farnell, only a couple months old. Am I right to assume that if a hub actually feeds 5v back, it's now actually ok on the rev2? I have 2 powered hubs, 1 at 5v / 1 amp...

Re: For Sale: Raspberry Pi ,model B. Rev A - 256Mb model - f

I had a similar problem a few months ago after trying some GPIO projects. Thought I had cooked my pi, the network didn't appear to work. MAC address not showing in the router, unable to ssh into pi etc. The sd card worked ok in another pi which led me to believe it was a cooked pi (or is that over ...

Silly question, can I ssh even if the pi is still at login stage?
