Re: can raspbian also be installed like a normal distribution?

Without SD card (once it is supported) you will need at least a primary boot partition with FAT32 filesystem and another partition for the root filesystem on your SSD. How many primary partitions have you got on your SSD? You can have not more than 4 primary partitions or 3 primary partitions and 1 ...

Re: Is there an elegant way to move from a 16GB SD card to a 200GB card?

... if I use DD can I simply clone this 16GB image onto the 200GB card and simply swap them out? Yes. If you use your Mac for that. If you copy a drive with dd that is mounted in read/write mode, you may be asked for user input when booting the clone. Bad if you are booting headless. Will latest Ra...

Re: RaspiPi 4 Buster - Bootproblem - Experte gesucht

Re: microSD partitioning and formating with GDISK for Boot and OS separation

It is no bug that the second partition on your SD card is still shown. It is there, you only don't use it. You should see something similar to this: pi@raspberrypi:~ $ lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT sda 8:0 0 931.5G 0 disk └─sda1 8:1 0 931.5G 0 part / mmcblk0 179:0 0 14.9G 0 disk ├─mm...

Re: microSD partitioning and formating with GDISK for Boot and OS separation

You must not use gdisk to manage partitions your SD card. The boot partition must be on a drive with MBR partitioning and gdisk is for GPT partitioning only. I use parted. fdisk is also known to work. You may use GPT partitioning for all other drives (including the drive with your root filesystem, a...

Re: Latest updates 20/11/19 affecting fstab

No. AFAIK the most recent change to fstab was the replacement of device names with PARTUUID on Raspbian Images to support booting from USB (2017-04-10). The only command in your script that changes fstab is the "sed" command. Even if any package update would cause a fstab change no updated package i...

Re: Pi 4 Keyboard/Mouse Issues when booting off SSD

Placing the ssh file worked, but I am still trying to figure out why the mouse and keyboard stop working only on boot from SSD. I do not want to have to VNC/SSH each time I want to use this Pi. It is not a power issue either as when booting from the SD card I am able to copy files to and from the S...

Re: Switch from Rpi 3 to rpi 4

Even if usb boot may be supported in future, your OS must support the Raspberry Pi4 too. If your installation is based on Raspbian Buster you can easily copy the files from the boot partition to an empty SD card with a fat32 filesystem and use the SD card for booting with root filesystem on your SSD...

BTW. you should also check whether or not the ntfs-3g package is installed

Code: Select all

apt search ntfs-3g
IIRC early Raspbian Buster images came without this package, needed to mount (Windows) NTFS filesystems.

Re: Maria DB: Installation of system tables failed!

/media/pi is a directory for removable devices. It is a bad practice to place datafiles below this path because it is available only if you login as pi to the desktop.

I guess the MariaDB server can't access /media/pi.
