Re: Easily run 64-bit Debian Buster packages on a Raspbian system: new RPi4 / RPi3 image released (systemd-nspawn, LXDE)

Hello, if you are using raspbian-nspawn-64 , and would like to be able to access host system devices (such as /dev/i2c-1) from within the 64-bit container, you may be interested to read the short tutorial I've posted about this, on the project's open wiki ( here ). This article covers the case of al...

Re: USB image writer

Hi bzt, I've just pushed a 1.0.2 ebuild for usbimager; this now uses your versioned release tarball and Makefile install function, so should hopefully be easy to version bump for future releases. Accordingly, users running the current v1.5.4 gentoo-on-rpi-64bit image can upgrade their usbimager to v...

Re: STICKY: Making your own custom burn-n-boot Raspbian image

Does anybody know how to script commands while inside the raspbian image with systemd-nspawn? Well, per e.g. these notes , you could provide your desired command 'payload' as input to a secondary shell started inside the container. So, for your example: #!/bin/bash <... snip - set up loop mount etc...

Re: STICKY: PINN - An enhanced version of NOOBS.

Hello, just a quick note that the new v1.4.8 release of my bootable raspbian-nspawn-64 image for the RPi4/RPi3 (changelog here ) is now available for installation via PINN (called nspawn64 there) . For those unfamiliar with this system, it is essentially a vanilla 32-bit Raspbian Buster desktop, but...

Hi Gavinmc42,

USBImager is bzt's program (I just packaged it for Gentoo): so any comments on it, please post in this thread.

Re: Updated 64-bit Gentoo Image for RPi3 Released (now also for RPi3B+ and RPi4B)

The current sys-devel/gdb version is 9.1, and is available on the binhost (but not shipped on the image by default). Try running genup to update your system to v1.5.4 (further notes here ) and once done, emerge gdb - you should then find it is bringing in this binary package, if all is well. hth, sa...

Re: Easily run 64-bit Debian Buster packages on a Raspbian system: new RPi4 / RPi3 image released (systemd-nspawn, LXDE)

Hi blee0518, Why not boot the OpenWRT system natively on your RPi, it comes with its own kernel and bootfs does it not? If you do need to isolate it (*), then yes a container should work to some extent (see e.g. here ), but what is the threat vector you are trying to protect against? As to getting i...

Re: USB image writer

Hi bzt, the point of the quotes was just to note that per the autotools/ports paradigm (which Gentoo's ebuild framework plays nicely with), your Makefile should ideally support: a DESTDIR variable, default unset, which can be used to place the entire install tree in a fake root (but does not otherwi...

Re: USB image writer

You misunderstood. If DESTDIR is unset, then the install path defaults to "/usr". This way "make install" will put the executable under "/usr/bin", and "DESTDIR=/usr/local make install" will put it into "/usr/local/bin", just as it supposed to. Ah, I see where you're going with that now. Well, typi...

Also, you can now install the raspbian-nspawn-64 package from the official Raspbian repo. This runs a 64-bit Debian Buster 'sidekick' O/S in a lightweight container on your RPi (3B, 3B+ or 4B), integrated with your regular 32-bit Raspbian Buster userland, under the official 64-bit kernel alphanumeri...

Hi bzt, congratulations getting the 1.0.0 release out! A few quick comments: The source tarball (release) format looks perfect; I'll put out a new Gentoo ebuild for your 1.0.0 shortly using it (rather than the current git-based approach). DESTDIR is ideally left unset in the Makefile (see e.g. here ...

TamaTamaGoGo, ah, apologies ><, that was a typo on one of my GitHub pages; you actually need to issue: pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y raspbian-nspawn-64 to install the package. At the moment, you only have debian-buster-64 (the guest OS image) installed. best, sakaki
