Re: Easily run 64-bit Debian Stretch packages on a Raspbian system: new RPi3 demo image released (systemd-nspawn, LXDE)

@sakai Thanks for this. I needed a 64 bit userland for a go project and finally found this after fumbling around with Ubuntu and other arm64 options for the pi. Literally nothing out there is as lean as raspbian and in the absence of a native 64 bit option, this is by far the best option. I am gett...

Pretty soon the boot process is finished and I am offered a login prompt. Re: Easily run 64-bit Debian Stretch packages on a Raspbian system: new RPi3 demo image released (systemd-nspawn, LXDE)

Hi Botspot, firstly, apologies for the delay in responding, I have been travelling. As to your question, systemd-nspawn lies roughly in the system virualization spectrum between a guest OS chroot, and a full-blown KVM approach. Unlike KVM, when booted under systemd-nspawn the (>=1) guest OS shares a...

Hi Jangla, what version of the glibc library do you have installed? To check, run: demouser@pi64 ~ $ eix --installed --exact sys-libs/glibc If < 2.29 is indicated as the installed version, try upgrading it. Ensure you have network connectivity, then issue (first): demouser@pi64 ~ $ sudo eix-sync Let...

I've just posted a short article on the gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit wiki, covering setup of an xrdp server on your RPi3 ( here ). Brief instructions for creating a custom TLS keypair (and forcing its use) are also provided. Example of connecting from Windows 10 (using its built-in remote desktop client): h...

Re: Easily run 64-bit Debian Stretch packages on a Raspbian system: new RPi3 demo image released (systemd-nspawn, LXDE)

Hi ShiftPlusOne, just a quick heads-up on this. I have now pretty much finished testing the Debian Buster 64-bit container locally, and it all seems to work pretty much as expected. I assume we should target this rather than Stretch for the production release, as it will soon be the stable variant? ...

crocket, I appreciate you're not using my gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit image, rather building out your own Gentoo system from scratch, but you may want to take a quick look at the rpi3-overlay used by my project; there are a number of 'fixups' for the RPi3 B/B+ (working around Ethernet glitches on B+, WM co...

And the other question i have is, when Raspbian is started up the first time, you see the window that guides you through to finish the setup, including getting updates, how do i trigger this window again, or do i just use a commandline to make that happen? Do you mean the first boot setup wizard? h...

Re: Easily run 64-bit Debian Stretch packages on a Raspbian system: new RPi3 demo image released (systemd-nspawn, LXDE)

For the postinst and postrm scripts to handle the edge cases properly, does this sound about right: On postinst, it should extract the tarball if the target directory does not exist. On postrm, it should leave the directory in place. If the user purges the package, it should stop the machine if it'...

Hi ShiftPlusOne, hope all is well with you. I'm just getting back onto this now, given that the gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit 1.4.0/1 is now out and seems reasonably stabilized. So, I think maybe how we should proceed with this now might be as follows. To simplify, let's constrain the work to be done for ups...

Re: Identifying a board..

Incidentally, on PI's booted under a 64-bit OS there is no serial number present in /proc/cpuinfo (and this has been marked as wontfix, per this issue). In such cases however, you can still get the serial number via:

Code: Select all

cat /proc/device-tree/serial-number

I've been cross-referencing many guides on this and it seems both code_exec and sakaki have missed out the stages that compile the DTBs, including Overlays, as well as the modules. I'm hoping that might solve the issue... One guy also did another additional step where he replaced /lib/firmware/brcm...

Don't use all 3 of the patches 6by9 listed, just 2 of them: omit the 6d23e1aa79337d4f9468b8dadcebab824c01669b patch (I found it caused problems during the probe phase).
