Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

... Alex has updated his power page.. https://raspi.tv/2019/how-much-power-does-the-pi4b-use-power-measurements PeterO How accurate are those figures really? Because according to the chart further into the post, the Pi3b and Pi2b use an identical amount of power which we know is not the case. Typo?

so long as you stick with well and efficiently written software. You've found the caveat. Your average beginner isn't going to know how to write their own efficient code and the available choices are less than stellar examples. Take Chromium as an example... I doubt most could even recognise an ine...

Re: Raspberry pi 4 sold out?

I imagine it's not as simple as "make 10x as many on launch" They can only make so many at a time, making ten times as many would take ten times as long, delaying the launch and possibly straining the budget (making them isn't free, some profits from sale of boards must go toward making more) Wareho...

Re: The RPi4 makes no sense to me. Fight me!

I can see some use for two hdmi ports, but I'm with everyone else so far: why that particular port? (beside the obvious) This breaks compatibility with all screen hats and hat like displays. But that can be worked around. Im also sceptical about the recommendation for a micro usb to usbc adaptor so ...

No, the H264 decoder is the same.

The H265 HEVC decoder supports 10bit 4k.
I was playing a 10bit h.264 encoded file just 5 minutes ago on my Pi3A+ though...
Is it really unsupported? Seems to work fine in the VLC that comes preinstalled.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

hi, Will this new(Rpi4) product support Windows 10? If you mean Windows 10 IOT as is available for the Pi3b etc, not until Microsoft updates it to support the new hardware. If you mean Windows 10 desktop for x86 PC's, maybe via emulation but you're on your own in getting it to work. @Jamesh Don't d...

Re: PI 3B+ WIFI not working on different AP/routers

I experienced a similar issue over the weekend with my Pi3A+, at least, your symptoms look the same as mine. After two days of reading posts and trying stuff, I found a recommendation to make sure the 5G SSID used a different password to the 2,4G SSID I simply logged into the router as an admin and ...

Re: both motors only moving a tiny bit

Have you checked the voltage of the batteries (while in use), they might simply be drained.

8 minutes sounds about right for a small battery pack.
What kind of batteries are you using? How have you wired them, exactly as the guide says, or using different components?

Re: Rbp Zero W Problems with sound

if you are planning to connect your speaker directly thru the headphone jack you better place your ear very near (as in within 20mm). I have two issues with this statement. 1: OP has a Pi 0 W, there is no headphone jack - they're deriving audio via the HDMI port. 2: it simply isn't true on models t...

Re: WiFi refuses to connect

Thanks for the suggestion, but after tinkering all day, I've narrowed the issue down to the 5g WiFi. If I install a clean Raspbian Stretch (2018-11-13) and then place the uSD card in a Pi3b, it connects to 2.4G WiFi just fine. If I then put the card in the Pi3A+ again and try to connect to 5G, it fa...

Re: WiFi refuses to connect

Slight update on this. After leaving my Pi overnight, I again tried it today. I booted it and suddenly WiFi was working, no questions asked. Confused, I tried my other SD card and it also worked. Then, upon switching back to the original card, the Pi refuses to boot, from either card... But both car...

Re: WiFi refuses to connect

I still have a 2018-11-13 iso, so I'll give that a go, but I suspect the issue is hardware related.
Not sure how I possibly broke it though, it worked right up until I did an update (because it needed wifi to do the update)

I'm in for the "$25 fix" I suspect

With the card in the working RPi run sudo rpi-update . Then swap it back to the 3A+. No luck. The Pi still refuses to connect to the internet. It just reports "wlan0: Not associated" when I hover the wifi icon. I swapped in a known working SD card from November 2018 and wifi still does not work. Co...

Re: Battery for Pi Zero with 3G

Those 3.7v powerbanks have a 5 volt step up regulator inside them, thats how they can run 5v devices (or charge your phone, as they're typically designed to do) Its also where the conversion loss comes in. It might be possible to run a headless Pi 0 directly from a 3.7v li-ion or li-po battery, some...

Re: Battery for Pi Zero with 3G

Conversion losses depend on the regulator (either included or supplied by you)

It could be 30%, or it could be as low as 4%

General advise is to allow 20% for conversion losses, meaning your 10000mAh battery with step-up regulator will provide around 8000mAh at 5v

I've been collecting dust with my Pi3A+ for a few months and updated to the latest stretch version. Previously I had updated as far as about April. Upon updating, I cannot access my wifi at all. The SSIDs all appear, but I cannot connect to any, despite triple checking the password is accurate, neit...

Re: I finally got my Raspberry pi boards to work with my Motorola Lapdock 500

The ID pin on a micro USB connector is supposed to connect to ground, not +5v.
If you connected it to +5v, you will effectively create a short circuit.

From the description, I think a Pi Zero W would probably suit this task better for your use. It's smaller, lighter and consumes the least power of any Pi (around 100-150mAh before turning stuff off)

Re: The correct "over_voltage" settings in RPI 2B for (Overclock )

I would agree with davidcoton, after setting your overclock settings, see if the program you intend to run works as intended, if not, increase the settings and add some cooling, otherwise it's a success and further overclocking isn't necessary/beneficial.
