Raspbian Stretch, ALSA and the Pi 3 B

Last November I had general problems getting audio players to work on both a Pi Zero Plus and a Pi 3 B. The Pi 3 B has a Cirrus Logic audio card and the Pi Zero Plus has PHat-DAC that uses the HiFi-Berry driver. In short, most players defaulted to HDMI sound whatever the chosen sound device. Alsamix...

Re: Raspberry pi 7”touchscreen brightness

I've coded a little Python program that calls Linus Groh's module (he does all the good stuff like error trapping). It requires three files as given below, 1) The python program, called brightness.py # brightness.py Version 0.1 # Copyright (C) 2019 Roy Leith # This program is distributed under the t...

Re: USB mic fails in 4.4.50 (NOW FIXED in 4.9.24)

I have upgraded to Stretch and I have found that alsa is broken. In fact, no devices work including the analogue Line Out. I have a Pi 3 B (with latest Stretch image) with a Cirrus Logic card, a Pi Zero with a PHat Dac and a Pi Zero Plus, again with a PHat Dac. The Cirrus Logic card has microphones,...

Re: rpi3 usb microphone on stretch

I think you will find that Stretch alsa audio is broken. If you read my two posts on ALSA Working Fine but Not Controlling Audio, you will find that alsamixer shows all devices together with the input and output ports on those devices. asound detects devices and, in my case, can make my Cirrus audio...

Re: ALSA Working Fine but Not Controlling Audio

The mystery deepens. I have a Pi Zero and a Pi Zero Plus, both of which have been fitted with a PHat Dac. After updating the Zero Plus to Stretch (I think, although I need to check that it is not still on Jessie) the PHat Dac worked well. The Pi Zero would only play back via HDMI. The audio preferen...

ALSA Working Fine but Not Controlling Audio

RPi 3 B, 2018-10-09-raspbian-stretch, Cirrus-Logic Audio Card. I had problems and so I installed a fresh copy of 2018-10-09-raspbian-stretch on a spare SD card. I went through the new installation process and updated everything. I updated config.txt with the cirrus driver. My python mixer program, w...

Re: Main Menu Editor doesn't update

I've had this problem for years with many Raspbian releases. What is irritating is that I keep forgetting the fix (your mileage may vary). Make sure the desktop files for the menu entries you want are in /usr/share/raspi-ui-overides/applications. Usually, sudo pcmanfm will give you a file manager th...

I've updated my mixer program for the Cirrus Logic audio card so that it now works on Raspi 1s, 2s and 3s with the latest pre-compiled kernel from, http://www.horus.com/~hias/cirrus-driver.html This is what the mixer looks like. I used the same wireless mouse/keyboard and WiFi dongle (one of those cheapo 'nano' style things) that work perfectly on my other Pis (the Pi 'A's are the only models I don't have) and strange things are happening. I use a four port, unpowered USB hub with the microUSB to USB adaptor from the Pimoro...

Pi 3 Studio DAW

I have found that my Pi 3 B+ is the only Pi able to run a Focusrite 2i4 USB audio interface. It needs the official Universal Power Supply, but runs well. I would usually use Reaper in Wine as my 'Linux' DAW, but decided not to push the Raspi 3 too far. I needed to do MIDI as well as audio and the vi...

Re: Bluetooth Audio Breakup [Solved]

Thanks guys. Just in case other folk are following the issue, this is what I found. sudo ifconfig wlan0 down will disable the WiFi device and stop scanning. Bluetooth audio is then reliable. sudo ifconfig wlan0 up will restore the WiFi device. The audio interruptions seem reduced, but not totally el...

Bluetooth Audio Breakup

I have tried my Raspi 3 with two Bluetooth audio players; a Veho portable and a Decoderstation connected to a hifi system. In both cases, there is occasional sound breakup. My two Bluetooth MP3 players work well via the same two devices. I can tell from the Clementine display that there is considera...

Re: Looking for a case for Pi with Wolfson sound card

Camdenboss used to make one for the 'B' and I bought two of them. However, they are no longer in production and the hint from CPC Farnell that there would be a new case for the B+ and 2B (when Cirrus have support for the latest kernel) has come to nothing, so far. I am watching Pibow as they seem to...

Re: Sharing our Projects

Thanks for the suggestions. Bitbucket appears to be limited to five users with read or write access, but github seems to fit the bill. My mixer is not intended as a version controlled, fully documented program. It should be just a stopgap until Cirrus Logic get their own act together. I'm weakening,...

I have written a handy mixer for the Cirrus Logic audio card in Python. The Forum categories allow the uploading of picture files, but anything else is barr...

Re: Transfer my existing setup to Pi version 2

I thought it would be possible to just transfer the SD card to the 2B (it's a micro-SD in a carrier) as I had all the available upgrades installed. I was wrong. I've got a number of Pi_s (this one only has 256MB of RAM and it's slow), and have devised the following cunning plan. If you are a Windows...

Re: Midori & uzbl both crash Xorg randomly

Using xfce4 and having similar problems. Some apps work for a while, but xorg usually crashes eventually. Just changing the window size of Midori is enough to crash xorg. BTW, Midori is missing lots of its bits such as bookmarks. The reason is that no .midori folder is created in the home directorie...

I want to get the internal sound going using the 3.5mm output jack. Alsa works well. However, no amount of fiddling with the qjackctl settings stopped jack (jackD2) from crashing. Re: Wallpaper and Desktop Menus

Fancy losing your desktop context menus!

Anyway, I Googled the interweb and found this terminal command that gets the desktop preferences back.

pcmanfm --desktop-pref

Then untick the 'Show menus provided by the window manager when desktop is clicked' box.

Re: Graphics Tablet with the pi?

As you say, the Wacom Bamboo is detected as a USB device, but is not installed as an HID device. The key driver, wacom.ko, is missing from the drivers folder. The way to get this is to download the latest version of linux wacom (linuxwacom-0.9.5.tar.bz2) and to compile it. However, the raspi ARM ker...
