Re: Raspberry PI Web Server

I think that if you want publicly facing servers that are running all that junk and you are worried about the safety of your local LAN then you should not have the servers on your local LAN. Separate them. Use firewalls. yes, i will look into setting up two separate networks and firewalls. as far a...

Re: Raspberry PI Web Server

i also would like to run a webserver with similar services. actually it already runs nicely on the local network. i am wondering... how dangerous is it, if i make it accessible from the internet with port forwarding? :) what do i have to look out for? the stuff on the webserver itself isn't that cri...

Re: Adding second camera to Rpi 3?

I would disagree! Who needs to cameras would be my question to you! Yes, there are two HDMI connectors, but the DSI 7in has touch input which is not available via HDMI. i would have many ideas for two cameras. 3D or 360° movie captures, surveillance like the original poster,... there are many displ...

Re: Adding second camera to Rpi 3?

the rpi3 (and even rpi4) only supports one pi camera module. the compute module (+ compute module io board) supports two pi camera modules... so you would have to use an usb camera as a second camera or use the compute module. edit: i would prefer if the normal raspberry pi 4 had 2 CSI connectors an...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

what i didn't expect at all are the two hdmi outputs. that's so awesome! :) and i didn't expect a more expensive 4gb model. i thought they would wait until 4gb is cheap enough to meet the old price point. it's nicer to have the options though. :) the rest is pretty much what i expected and i have a ...

Functionally, eMMC is identical to SD cards (same bus protocol) it's just soldered to board, instead of being in a slot.
how is soldering on flash memory a good idea? sounds horrible to me if you have to throw away your computer just because the flash chip had too many rewrites. :(

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

VirtualBox and Blender3D require x86 CPU Architecture. blender runs fine on a rasberry pi 3 with the opengl driver activated and it even is in the raspbian repository. (i just needed to change some settings regarding the opengl selection method in blender's preferences.) on a raspberry pi 4 it shou...

Re: starting omxplayer in .profile

it still doesn't work for me. i am using the CLI. if start omxplayer directly from the command prompt it works. but if i start it from a .sh script (i noticed it doesn't only happen if i put it into .profile) then it doesn't react to any keyboard presses. i have to reset the pi afterwards. does nobo...

Re: Pi 4 questions

but why would a big.LITTLE CPU be advantageous for spectre mitigation? in my understanding out-of-order execution simply could be disabled in a big core and then power consumption also would go down and be comparable to a little core? so better put in 8 big cores and disable out-of-order execution i...

Re: Pi 4 questions

People would *like* USB3. People would *like* support for more RAM. However, there is nothing to suggest that those features will actually be part of the SoC that goes into the Pi4. It is *speculation* that those features will be present. Now, as it happens, I think there is a decent chance that th...

i am also very excited already even if it still is at least a year away. :)

i think the main features are pretty much clear (usb3 and support for more ram) but how they will achieve it while keeping backward compatibility (will they?)... i have no idea... :)

i had the same problem.

this how-to worked for me (it's for centos but the steps starting from "harden mariaDB server" worked fine for me on raspbian).

starting omxplayer in .profile

i would like to start omxplayer automatically after booting. so i have put it into .profile and it works fine but i also need to be able to quit it with esc. why doesn't this work if i put stuff in .profile? how can i achieve this in a non-complicated way? :)

@Aydan: oh! i see! i misunderstood the gadget setup.

@aBUGSworstnightmare: sorry, i was refering to Aydan's post.

@DavidS: it's not only a presentation of still images. it should be video with 25fps. but i will look into the SPI nevertheless. thanks!

Re: HDMI splitter?

thanks! the piwall project sounds interesting too.

about that gadget thing... are you sure this would work with a raspberry pi 3 as gadget and zeros as "clients"? since in all tutorials i saw it was the other way around and the zero always was the gadget?

Re: HDMI splitter?

price isn't my primary concern. i would like to avoid having to deal with 20 (or so) sdcards and linux installations. :) any other ideas to make this more convenient? net booting doesn't work with pi zeros right?

(i think at the pihut you can order 2 pi zeros per order (one pi zero + one pi zero w).)

HDMI splitter?

i am doing an art project where i need to display videos on a lot of small screens. i was thinking of waveshare 5" screens with a resolution of 800x480 for example. i would like to avoid having to use one raspberry pi per screen though since that would be quite cumbersome. does anyone know if there ...
