Re: SSD doesn't boot

I can watch at a screen if its only for some second, or wearing sun glasses I can resist some more time. The point is to not be 30min looking at it.

I dont know if tomorrow I will have time, but if not I will try what you said past tomorrow.

Thanks for the help

Re: SSD doesn't boot

I understand you have vision problems, but configuring VNC is not difficult. Probably easier than trying to get your current NOOBS system working. You just need to add a file named ssh (or ssh.txt) to the card or SSD after writing the image to enable SSH logins, then you can SSH in and turn on VNC ...

Re: SSD doesn't boot

Yeah! I have it! The "keys" were 2: Power the cable with another PSU and follow the "tempo" and an order. First I have to connect one of the USB to the PSU and connect it to the Raspberry Pi while being unpowered. Then wait 2-3 seconds, whitin them the SSD´s reads something about itself, and then en...

Re: SSD doesn't boot

First of all, have to make clear the microSD is 64MB, not 64GB. Is one of that old techy things you keep for melancholic purposes. I never thought I would do something usefull with it. And is formatted to FAT32. The SSD have been installed with the lattest version of Raspbian since you told it to me...

Re: SSD doesn't boot

The big prize for HawaiianPi! It doesn't boot with the fresh install with Etcher, so It has to be the SSD. In fact, is an old SSD. The crucial M4, and I noticed the leds of the adapter cable starts to blink a couple of seconds after the Raspberry is on. About etcher I have to say it didn't work on t...

Re: SSD doesn't boot

Davidcoton, don't worry, the Raspbian is well upgraded. HawaiianPI, I edited the /root/etc/fstab and the /boot/cmdline.txt. Now look like this: /MEDIA/PI/ROOT/ETC/FSTAB: proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 PARTUUID=00061ae7-06 /boot vfat defaults 0 2 PARTUUID=00061ae7-07 / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1 # a swa...

Re: SSD doesn't boot

It still doesn't work. I did the "apt upgrade" and "apt distro-upgrade" and then copied again with the SD CARD COPIER the whole partition to the SD. Also one time with the "Change uuid" option unmarked and then marked. To clarify, I am doing everything while I am running on the filesystem which I wa...

SSD doesn't boot

Hi. I have a Raspberry pi 3B+ and I tryied to use a SSD as the bootable device where the filesystem is (so no SD) and I didn’t had luck. To do that I copied the entire filesystem of the SD card to the SSD with the SD CARD COPIER that comes with Raspbian Strecht, but when I try to boot the Ssd it do...

Re: SSD caching in raspbian?

Sorry for the delay...

I think you didn't understand something, because there is no HDD on what I want to build. Just a Rpi and a SSD.

Anyways I am going to buy, probably, the same SSD than you.

Now I am using VLC player while connected with a tablet via the VNC connection. Less fancy but usefull anyways

Re: Kodi crashes on start (logfile)

I don't know where are the logfiles in /home/pi/ you want me to share. I did a "ls -a" and I don't see anything suspicios to contain it. According to this link ( https://garyhall.org.uk/raspberry-pi-log-files.html ) there are no logs there, so I did another thing. I told to Kodi to create a much mor...

Ouch I forgot to tell to you about I had set the GPU mem to 256 and when I try to set the Original non-GL desktop driver it prompts that driver is disabled. Kodi crashes on start (logfile)

Hi. I am running a Raspbian Strecht on the Raspberry pi 3B+. I installed kodi via apt-get and when I tried to start it it makes a strange crash. The bluetooth keyboard and the USB mouse freezes, but I still can see the clock updating the time and the CPU level usage on the widget of the top bar.But ...

SSD caching in raspbian?

Hi. I am thinking in use a SSD for the Rpi3b+ and just read about the Intel SSD caching. Reading the requeriments of it I saw the need for the motherboard or kernel to be compatible with it. This feature seems really being able to speed up the Rpi in a way where is limited by RAM, so its interesting...

Re: Worst web surfing experience with Strecht

Well I just bought the SATA to USB 2.0 cable. It isn't so easy to find, especially if you don't want that double USB end. I bought one with two male USB, and I hope plugging just one it is going to work. The normal cable would arrive at my house on first week of november, so I am going to try. Now, ...

Re: Worst web surfing experience with Strecht

About the extra power plug for the SSD, it seems I only have to be sure my SATA to USB is for a USB 2.0 and not 3.0. Also saw there are some SSD that don't work, but I can't find a list of them, so I will tell to the guys of the computer shop about that and if it not works to change it I use an exte...

Space problem trying to install with apt-get

Hi, I just tried to install gdisk with apt-get and appeared a error message about the need of free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/. Re: Worst web surfing experience with Strecht

Ok Ghans, now I get it. About if it's worth or not to buy a SSD, I checked the web about that, and found many people sayint it really worth, so I search for a benchmark and found this one: https://www.jamesachambers.com/2018/03/raspberry-pi-3b-microsd-vs-ssd-speed-benchmarks/ . As we can see, the SS...

Re: Worst web surfing experience with Strecht

You are better off using USB if the device is suitably fast. But do remember that the USB bus is shared with the ethernet. Any devices you plug in will also use part of that 480 megabits, so it really depends on your use case. Sorry I don't understand that. How is shared the USB bus with ethernet? ...

Re: Worst web surfing experience with Strecht

Now I am surfing with a swap file of 500MB and GPU memory of 128MB. I will check another options, but if I want to use youtube while I am browsing it seems I have to increase the size of the swap file. And the command "sudo /etc/init.d/dphys-swapfile restart" does nothing . It appears this "OK" mess...

Re: Install adb newer than 1.0.31

I didn't know the was a newer version of Raspbian called Stretch. Even when you, rpdom, talk about stretch didn't thought it was a new OS version. Well, finally, I did it. Just changed the repositories list link and installed adb 1.0.36. As always, I learned things about linux during this struggle. ...

Re: Install adb newer than 1.0.31

With "sudo uname -a" the OS version I get is: Linux raspberrypi 4.9.35-v7+ I had make the "sudo apt-get update", but even with that the "adb" doesn't appear. To install adb I used "apt-get install android-tools-adb", but I get the 1.0.31 version, which is not enough recent for my purpose. @rpdom , w...
