Re: Cant Ping Pi When On Mobile Broadband

A slightly convoluted but perfectly functional way I use is via a Pi2 running PiVPN on my internal network Setup OpenVPN on your internal network (I usually choose TCP using port 443 as it makes it easier to get through any proxy servers in the way) Set up port forwarding on Network modem/cable mode...

NOOBS is just a simplified way to set up an operating system on a RPi. If you think your running operating system version is 'out of date', update it From the command line, when connected to the internet, run sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade If you want a full, new clean operating system, fo...

Re: pi zero w very slow internet speed

Can you show the results of running "iwconfig"..?

The 'bit rate' will show the network connectivity speed so should show if the bottleneck is with the Pi, the network or the ISP.

Re: Pi-VPN Security

Security is as strong as its weakest link. The OpenVPN solution underlying PiVPN is a strong and robust mechanism which will secure the communication path between the two end points. So long as you treat the .ovpn files securely then you will be as reasonably safe as you can expect to be. One option...

Re: New Pi Zero W brcmfmac failures and can't start wlan0 Wi

A few folks (myself included) have had problems with the Pi0W wireless and BT with one, other or both suddenly stopping working. Nothing you do will resurrect the connectivity and I have returned and replaced my Pi0W's with the vendor. A possible quickie check to work around connectivity (assuming y...

Had similar issues with 2 different WZ's. Swapped SD cards, used SD cards from a working Pi ZW, updated kernel etc to no avail...

Re: Headless setup: no keyboard, display or frustration

Probably the easiest way to cut through all the angst is to use PiBakery or something similar. You can set up many of the parameters you want, run commands, set up cron jobs, run upgrade, configure tasks for first and recurring boots, SSH is enabled by default etc. It will also install considerably ...

Run a cron job of your script every 5-10 minutes..? Not automated real time but probably meets most of your needs assuming your two connections don't swap around like a fiddlers elbow.

If command line copying isn't your thing and your happier with a graphical interface, I prefer Bitvise's SSH client over Putty for a Windows client for both SSH and SFTP.

Several gotcha's await...... You do have a FLIR camera, not a Pi NoIR camera..? The Pi NoIr camera is NOT a FLIR camera. There are a few FLIR cameras out there that can be used with the Pi or Arduino, such as https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/flir-lepton-hookup-guide https://www.digikey.co.uk/en/...

I've run into this type of problem with USB cables before. A surprising number of the cables that come free with a charger only have two wire strands for charging not 4 for power and data.

Re: Camera connector on Pi Zero

I had a similar problem with a new 0W, check that your connector works before gluing.

As you can see on mine, the connecter on the left came away and also appears to have a soldered connector and even with the cable pushed in, the camera would only work intermittently.

The issue may be due to logging, code issues, timing or AN Other reason, whilst you debug, a quick and dirty workaround would be to set up a cron job to run a script say every couple of hours that stops and restarts the code. Not a fix but a workaround that should keep you up and running whilst you ...
