Re: Can a power line provide Raspberry Pi and a lamp with power?

if wifi security is such a concern? Perhaps consider looking at alternative wireless protocols, bluetooth, RF, IR etc.. its just that the wifi/smart device route is currently a very easy s/w only solution. And loading an open source f/w will mitigate ALL the real world remote (data mining?) server r...

Re: Can a power line provide Raspberry Pi and a lamp with power?

I do not want to reflash a device. Is there a WiFi bulb that I can control without a special vendor software and without reflashing? not as far as i am aware.. you can ebay a very basic and blank esp8266-01 controlled relay module that you can program yourself https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/XMQAAOS...

Re: Can a power line provide Raspberry Pi and a lamp with power?

Most 'smart' devices based on esp8265/6 wifi socs can with varying ease be reflashed with alternative firmware. Tasmota being a Very popular and fully featured option. - smart sockets advertised for use with an app called "smart Life" or "BrandName-Life" can CURRENTLY, be reflashed OTA without any p...

Re: Unable to reconnect to WiFi/networks via headless Pi0

try rebooting both your pi-0-w and your home router/ap.. then perhaps try setting a priority for each network ie network={ ssid = "wifi_A" psk = "passwordOfA" priority = 1 } network={ ssid = "wifi_B" psk = "passwordOfB" priority = 2 } I suspect that with equal priorities it started up when out looki...

Re: People-counting with Pi(Zero)?

A very do-able Sunday afternoon project imho. H/w and s/w i use/host on my pi-0-w for home automation could easily be adapted. the only thing i cant replicate is the Audible/physical 'CLICK' a manual counter provides. I suggest you consider these or similar as 'Clickers' https://www.aliexpress.com/i...

Re: Does cloning an SD clone the Pi's MAC address?

Im sure i have come across a Pi 'How to' that details a method of specifying the mac addy to use, of course i have failed in my google-fu to find it to link .. I can only assume that if my recall is correct and such a 'fix' is Pi applicable, Then in such a case where a user specified Mac addy is app...

Re: Wifi not working after cloning RaspberryPI Zero W

use the sd copier utility preinstalled on your pi rather than the dd command. Its a simple solution and simply works resulting n a sd card you can use to boot a 2nd pi with an identical system..
the only gotcha would be if you assign a static ip on the pi with a dchpcd.conf mod

Re: PI top laptops- how usable?

i agree the cheapest low spec laptop with a reasonable battery life would be a lot cheaper and probably smaller/lighter to carry about. As well as providing a usb power supply for a Pi (perhaps?) with ssh and vnc access to the pi is probably a neater and more impressive use of tech solution. The Pi-...

Probably been considered or dismissed before but enclosing the litter tray within a fariday cage could provide a solution to identifying signals simply, a pi with an ethernet connection within the cage should only pick up device signals also within the cage?

Can GPIO pins be used with other sensors if the Raspberry Pi Sense HAT board is already installed?

Im far from expert only learning python myself but try setting the relay gpio HIgh and Low to turn on/off rather than trying to use pulse width modulation. If your relay board is triggered on when pulled Low which is usual your low pwm probably registers as low and doesn't change when you issue the ...
