Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

Oh dearie-me!! I installed vl805_update_0137a8 this morning and it all broke!! Much of it my fault I guess but, f.y.i., I was going off-piste booting from SD => /root partition on USB3 SSD (240GB) having sort-of followed this article c/o Znet: https://www.zdnet.com/article/raspberry-pi-adding-an-ssd...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 and Clementine

Does anyone know what happened to Clementine in the Buster repos? I use it lots, on several devices, and will miss it if I have to move up from Stretch :-( It looks like it got caught up in the QT opengl es mess. Debian builds (and raspbian doesn't change this) QT5 against opengl ES on armel and ar...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 and Clementine

EDIT: I took a quick look at the Buster repos and I only saw ARM64 builds, which is probably why you can't find it in Raspbian (32-bit). Give the Pi version I linked above a try, and if that doesn't work you could try building it from source. Thanks for the quick reply, but Clementine _is_ in the S...

Re: Raspberry PI 4 boot from HDD

Heater: I also sometimes suspect there are "fake" newbies turning up to post negative comments about the Pi 4, you know, competitors trying to put a spanner in the works. Clearly the work of the evil Mekon and his lakeys - the Pi 4 is BRILLIANT, many thanks!, but like Vladimir I was travelling a lit...

Re: Sense HAT not recognised on Raspbian Stretch

Duh!!! I hope I haven't wasted your time ('tho Thonny does behave differently to IDLE3). I now realize that both (LXT)Python3 and IDLE 3 do run OK if I put my programs in the Home directory and run everything from there. Previously I was running from "~/SenseHat/Code $ python3 env.py", or in the Cod...

Re: Sense HAT not recognised on Raspbian Stretch

Sorry, yes, I meant LXTerminal when I said [CLI]. I seem to be having the same problem with several programs but I have fallen back to the simplest to KIS. Runs fine on Thonny but fails on both IDLE3 (& 2) and LXTerminal. I can post others but I doubt it would help: My code env.py (copy and pasted f...

Re: Sense HAT not recognised on Raspbian Stretch

Thank you DirkS - that seemed to let DougieL's command run to completion but Sense HAT still broken in IDLE and via the CLI python3 command.

[Dougie] Yes, I see your logic but it's running headless via python that I had hope to achieve, but Thonny is a workaround I guess.

Thanks for helping.

Re: Sense HAT not recognised on Raspbian Stretch

I got all excited at first - until: sudo pip3 install -U sense-hat Requirement already up-to-date: sense-hat in /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages Collecting pillow (from sense-hat) Downloading Pillow-4.3.0.tar.gz (13.9MB) 100% |████████████████████████████████| 13.9MB 13kB/s Collecting numpy (from sens...

Re: Sense HAT not recognised on Raspbian Stretch

Thanks for your attention Dougie. Yes (upgraded on Pi2B host with Sense attached - see below): sense-hat is already the newest version (1.2). 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Clutching at straws: I say it is a new install, but I did do a few uninstalls of things I wasn'...

Sense HAT not recognised on Raspbian Stretch

Firstly apologies if this is a 'duplicate' - redirection welcome. Problem: I have a fairly old Sense HAT which worked fine on environmental and display programs I last used back in 2016. e.g 'gravity.py' (cf Magpi issue 46) worked a treat. I'm now using 'Stretch' (fresh install apt-get update etc et...

Re: After 5/13 Raspbian update, desktop menu is missing

Oh dear! It seems the problem has re-occurred after a fresh install of 'Stretch' on my Pi Zero (I have it running very sweetly on a couple of Pi3s already, no problem.) Having started the Zero up just fine on HDMI and keyboard, done the usual set-up stuff, I turned VNC on to allow headless running -...

Re: #59: Blue Dot

A really nice piece of software with easy-to-follow recipes (even for me!), providing a gentle learning curve. Excellent!

Thank you so much. Now all I need to do is build my buggy, attach my reclaimed Big Trak drivetrain and off we go exploring Mars...

btw will Bluetooth reach that far?.... ;-)

Re: USB boot now working on Pi3

Hahahaha (as in happy!). Having run my Pi3 booting from a 128GB ssd since last November - very stable but unable to update without breaking it, I decided to do a fresh install with Raspbian 2017-04-10. Spending most of yesterday trying to follow the 'Boot from SD instructions' I used before but kept...
