2 USB HDDs swapping mount points!?

Hi everyone, Whenever I reboot my pi, the mount points for the 2 external hard drives swap. For example I have a Seagate 1TB ST310005EXM101-RK mounted at /mnt/usbhdd-1TB and a Seagate 2TB SGBV2000GB mounted at /mnt/usbhdd-2TB. When I reboot, the 1TB mounts to /mnt/usbhdd-2TB and the 2TB to /mnt/usbh...

Re: Make files undeletable/unwritable on NTFS drive

I'm having some trouble with the NTFS drivers. It seems to me that I need to uninstall the ntfs-3g driver to make a hard drives files undeletable but then I can't write to the other drive because I don't have ntfs-3g to use. At the moment with ntfs-3g installed and using the ntfs driver on usbhdd-nt...

Re: Make files undeletable/unwritable on NTFS drive

Great idea and probably the easiest way, I remember how I had to switch to ntfs-3g so I could write to the drives. However it would be annoying to swap between them each time I wanted to add new files to the drive.

Make files undeletable/unwritable on NTFS drive

Hi everyone, I'm using my pi as a NAS with a NTFS formatted external drive attached and I'll like to set files undeletable and unwritable so I don't modify anything by accident. I use NTFS so I can always use the drive with Windows if I want What is the best the best way to achive this? I found the ...

Re: Create small SD card images on Windows

Thanks for the suggestions, before I dig out my Ubuntu live CDs, can the image that Win32 Disk Imager creates be shrunk, eg. following the example in OP, create the image that is 8GB then use another program to shrink it to 1GB in Windows? And one other question I thought of reading DeanC's script, ...

Create small SD card images on Windows

I've been using Win32 Disk Imager and it works fine but it also images free space . For example for a 8GB SD card with 1GB of used space it creates a 8GB image that includes the undesired 7GB of free space on the SD card. Are there any programs that will create an image of only the used space, eg 1GB?

Re: Samba: Can Access but can't discover

Are there any other CIFS/Samba masters? Just the one external USB hdd samba share. Have you checked out your config by running 'testparm -a smb.conf > tested.conf && mv smb.conf smb.conf~ && mv tested.conf smb.conf' followed by a restart of smbd and nmbd? I'm not sure what this does but this is wha...

Re: Samba: Can Access but can't discover

to your share add line: browsable = yes Unfortunately the pi still isn't seen from Windows 8. My smb.conf is completely default except for this on the end: [usbhdd] comment = USB HDD valid users = @root force group = root create mask = 0660 directory mask = 0771 read only = no locking = no path = /...

Samba: Can Access but can't discover

Hi, I just installed Minibian which is a lighter image of Raspbian. Everything is working fine however I cannot automatically discover the samba share on the pi from my Windows 8 computer ( like in this pic ) but I can access it fine manually via \\192.168.1.108 (the ip address of the pi) in windows...

Re: Track Internet Usage

Thanks for the suggestions but as you said penguintutor, they are all instantaneous/realtime network usage instead of accumulated network usage. Just tried: nethogs, which would be perfect if it counted the total accumulated network usage, iftop, similar to nethogs ntop, which has a nice web interfa...

Re: Track Internet Usage

An example, in Windows 8 you can get a internet monitor in task manager like this below that shows total accumulated internet usage for each program. I want to get a linux version like that which runs in a ssh session and shows total internet usage for each command that has been run. http://img534.i...

Re: Track Internet Usage

I'm not in front of a Linux machine to check but I seem to recall that ifconfig gives cumulative figures for tx and rx traffic on the interfaces. That should give an indication of the amount of data sine the last power on or interface reset Thanks for the suggestion but not quite what I'm after, I'...

Track Internet Usage

My router with Gargoyle installed is reporting that my Raspberry Pi is using about 500MBytes of internet usage per day so I'm trying to track down where the usage is going. Log What/When Hard Drive wakes up?

Hi, I have an external hard drive connected to my pi. It is of the type that automatically turns off after so long with no activity. However I have noticed that it turns on when I am not using it, which is not desirable, so I want to log what and when something is going on to turn the hard drive on....

I'm getting the fluctuating speeds as well where it is near maxing out my connection at 600kB/s for a few mins then to 0 and so on. I don't get any freezing and the pi is stable. I'm currently running 2013-02-09-wheezy-raspbian and qbittorrent-nox. I've updated firmware and the kernel, set "vm.min_f...

Re: Raspcontrol - A Web Control Centre for the Pi

I've been stuck for some time. So any ideas a...
