Re: Failed to start Backend server for 1-wire control

Hi Mick, I did this a couple of nights ago on a ZeroW with Buster and got the same/very similar results (for a DS9490 USB controller). After going through the "systemctl enable / start / stop/ disable" options I couldn't find anything obviously wrong. I also couldn't find any solutions by searching....

Re: Backspace key on official keyboard not working properly?

Hi Dud, Just tried my UK Pi keyboard (Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04d9:0006 Holtek Semiconductor, Inc. ) on both my Pi4 and Debian i5 machine and a "tap" on the Backspace key works as expected. (Num Lock on or off - just in case it had any effect) The usual cause of "weird" issues is the power supply - I...

Re: Issue with connecting GPS module to raspberry pi 3b+

Hi dipayan,

You should not need an additional USB to serial device, looking at the links there is a USB to serial chip (CP2102) built in to the module. I would just connect it with a micro USB lead and check that a ttyUSBn device is created.

Hope this helps,

Re: Issue with connecting GPS module to raspberry pi 3b+

HI dipayan, Looking at https://wiki.52pi.com/index.php/USB-Port-GPS_Module_SKU:EZ-0048 and https://www.robotshop.com/uk/us-gps-l80-39-gps-module-raspberry-pi.html They imply that the module as a whole requires a 5V supply and it is NOT clear that it will work from 3.3V on the Vcc pin. Also it is not...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 to 12V Induction sensor

Hi gxmark,

It doesn't look like the ground of the battery powered circuit is connected to the Pi's ground. Without this, the pi's input is just floating / acting as an antenna.

Hope this helps

Re: Is this an official power supply?

Hi echmain, Just for info, when I was in the Cambridge Raspberry Pi shop I noticed they stocked a second type of official power supply in addition to the one shown by HawaiianPi, described as a non-interchange head version. That, obviously, had UK pins and hence had a vertical orientation. Unfortuna...

Hi seanspotatobusiness ,

The Leafpad text editor uses the ctrl-C ctrl-V method including "over"paste - note however middle button paste could bring things selected outside leafpad.

Re: Making sense of ADS-B checksums & bitfields

Hi ab1jx, I always use a desktop to view the output remotely - so it is doing all the javascript processing. I might get chance to set up a 3B in place of the zero with everything else the same and see how that affects the stats (although this is probably not the best weekend for trying to compare a...

Hi ab1jx, Oops  I've just had a look back at my installation notes and I'm NOT using the internal webserver but am using lighttpd on the pi. The dump1090 version I used was git clone https://github.com/tedsluis/dump1090.git as the source and built a deb package from that. the lighttpd modules ...

Hi ab1jx,

If you ever do find a way of getting a system to cache the map tiles at the viewing end I would be most interested - a truly portable/isolated visual ADSB receiving station :-)

Re: Making sense of ADS-B checksums & bitfields

Hi ab1jx , I guess running Apache will up the load when active - I must say that I just connect to dump1090_mutability's internal server (after setting openstreetmap as the map tile source- still get google artifacts though!) at ip/dump1090/gmap.html and let my desktop do the heavy lifting. I've not...

Hi Bosse_B, If you can't use authorized_keys and you're happy to have your sftp username (but not password) in the history buffer you could use lftp and .netrc create a .netrc ( note the dot) in the user's home directory file with the following contents:- machine ftp.foo.bar login username password ...

Re: USB-HDD - NAS-attempt - Device or resource busy

Hi Nebelhom,

The issue with the mounted / not mounted disks is that you tried to u(n)mount /dev/sda not /dev/sda1.
so here I see them

Code: Select all

:~ $ sudo umount /dev/sda
umount: /dev/sda: not mounted
Hope this helps,

Hi FairlyLogical,

It's probably the "ro" - read-only- switch in the fstab entry

Hi WillBoxOwO,

I've used EasyTag on desktop Debian and it appears to run OK on a Pi3 (run remotely - X forwarding)

sudo apt install easytag libcanberra-gtk3-module

(the libcanberra-gtk3-module to remove nusiance warnings if started from command line/remotely)

Hope this helps,

Re: cli sd card utility to check the media

Hi PhatFil, Just a note on the use of the run header - it does not perform a "safe" restart - just a restart ( via a processor reset) - the chances of SD card corruption are the same as pulling the power. the command fsck.ext4 checks ( and can attempt a repair on) an ext4 (main/root) file system and...

Hi Flawl3ssSWE, If you are going to call this from cron at the desired time and simply want the button state at that time this modification should do it:- #!/usr/bin/env python2.7 import RPi.GPIO as GPIO import time GPIO.setmode(GPIO.BCM) GPIO.setup(23, GPIO.IN, pull_up_down=GPIO.PUD_UP) try: print ...

Re: bootable Stretch SD not detected in USB-SD reader (running Stretch OS)

PS. The modified card won't boot until is is overwritten ( with different UUID selected) or /etc/fstab on /dev/sda2 is modified with the new PARTUUID numbers - the tool does this automatically during the copy.

Re: bootable Stretch SD not detected in USB-SD reader (running Stretch OS)

Hi dsyleixa123, Yes - the UUID checkbox only works when creating a new copy. (If always used the card should always work from then on) You can change the PTUUID ( and hence the PARTUUIDs of the partitions) of the target card on the Pi. ( I had to do this when finding out what was causing your issue)...

Hi dsyleixa123 , Starting from the state where you can select the target card - you've stated that reformatting the target SD card with windows SDFormater does this. Hi dsyleixa123, I believe you have to select the "New Partition UUIDs" option if you ever want to use the target card on a system running from the source of the copy.
