Re: Creating a remote connection with Television Screens

So basically: -I will use a Samsung or LG smart TV. -Then I should use the Pi in conjuncture with a USB 3G Dongle. -VLC Player will then play the clip on repeat. -From my Laptop I will then access the pi via the internet and change the reel whenever it needs to be updated. So basically, the TV, Pi ...

Some GUI suggestions

What would be useful in the main menu editor, is a facility to drag and drop icons/shortcuts to different sections. Eg if you sudo apt-get install gparted, it plonks itself into the Preferences sub menu. Personally I'd like to have that in the System Tools sub menu. The other niggle, is locating ico...

Re: USB GSM Remote access to ethernet ?

Identify what USB GSM modem you want to use with the pi, as its probably going to be using the ordinary mobile phone network, they wont give you a static ip in most cases, so you need to consider a Dynamic DNS service which ties up the mobile phone IP assigned to the USB GSM modem, to a domain name ...

Re: Creating a remote connection with Television Screens

How do you want to control it? For example you could create a script which when booted up into the desktop loads a media file into VLC player and loops until told to shutdown. You can call VLC player from the command line (CLI). Obviously the pi would have the networking already configured to work w...

Re: google contacts to mysql sync

Maybe you could download the contacts from google using some sort of HTML automation, maybe like wget or something more geared to webpage automation & scraping, and then parse the HTML files into a flat file like csv, tab delimited or txt type of file and then create a stored procedure which imports...

Re: Trying to compile ungoogled-chromium

I used that term in DuckDuckGo, and I get nothing, I use the same term in Google and this thread is no2, but still nothing from eloston/ungoogled chromium github thread. I guess the Google filter bubble is working against me. As noted in 2011 an incredibly divisive implementation of technology. http...

Re: SD Card writing problem

When you put your SD card into your pc, if its got a built in card reader usually seen on laptops, and if running a linux live cd of sorts, can you navigate to /sysblock/<yourblockdevice ie mmcblk<0/1/...> or sd<a/b/...>>/device/cid and see any information there? If you can see the CID info, can you...

@mfa298, logs showed same ip address, not two different one's that would suggest to successful login attempts 12 minutes apart when I personally only made 1 successful login during this period of time. @Jamesh Changing icons could be a side effect of other changes made to a system, sometimes its the...

Re: Microsoft Windows finally on ARM? MS Pi?

As I plan on making it as flexible as possible, I dont see why GDB and OpenOCD couldnt be built/plugged into it. At the end of the day, you have a switching unit and some memory registers of sorts with some hardware functions (instruction sets) for the switching unit. Performance will vary depending...

Re: It appears my Pi has been hacked

I used the Preferences, Main menu editor to change that.
Havent yet figured out how to change the quick launch icons next to the raspberrypi button either, but its low priority.

I wouldnt rule anything out, money makes people do funny things, personally I'd only trust an AI.

Re: Microsoft Windows finally on ARM? MS Pi?

Biggest problem I see with porting code to different cpu architecture/ OS's is there are not any decent programming IDE's out there. Lots of programming tools with nice bits, but in todays day and age I would expect one IDE that has all the features and works with all the opensource languages and pr...

Re: printer driver problem

You could probably use this approach adapted for your printer. https://www.linux.com/blog/disable-enable-usb-terminal Scripting is quite easy imo with bash, so have a go a writing a couple of scripts, one to enable the printer and one to disable. Then just run the scripts when you need to. Maybe at ...

The original doesnt seem too complicated to compile https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/master/docs/linux_build_instructions.md I'm just surprised at the lack of feedback I get when building/compiling code on Linux. Maybe I have been spoilt with what I've been using for the last 30 odd ...

I'm not convinced at the moment because my main menu has been changing itself again. Lost the web browser links I enabled, and gained okular in two different places, plus a VLC player has turned up as well.

Re: Relay over internet --> DDNS

When using security certs, always keep the password in it. I know its a pain having to type in the password everytime you boot up your server, but it means if your cert does get nicked, unless they had a keyboard hook logging all your keystrokes, it makes your cert harder to use for whatever purpose...

Fair points but I hadnt done a reboot between the menu changes I made and it then resorting back, and I hadnt done any sudo apt-get update in this time period which could have caused a reversion. Other instances of randomness include Chromium shutting down randomly, one example being Sunday morning ...

Another indicator my pi has been hacked was the fact that I used the menu editor to make the other web browsers (dillo,& epiphany) installed on/with raspbian appear in the Internet section of the main menu.
