Re: Bill Gates backs Raspberry Pi in all but name?

I will hardly call that a support from Bill. Low cost PC is not a R-PI in his mind, that's for sure.

Re: Why not program on x86 desktop?

For me it's a challenge in a way. I got a six core beast with 16GB RAM and good GFX. I have never understood how stuff properly works in PC and always admired those who has been able to squeeze last juices from C64, ZX spectrum, Amigas and early PCs. R-PI kind of requires you to think what you can o...

Re: Games on "Cartridges"

I was thinking this same thing when I got my Pi yesterday! One issue I realised was is that any changes you want to make to config.txt has to be made on every 'cartridge'. Not good if you want to enable overscan for a different TV for example. So one idea is this: have your main (large) SD card, bu...

Re: Games on "Cartridges"

This would be so awesome! True that SD card prices are cheap enough to make this possible, just ordered a Sandisk Ultra Class 6 4GB card from play for £2.99.. This has to happen.. ;) Yeah, prices are silly for this. Just got one myself :) you can't pass that for £2.99 Anyway I guess I will post som...

Re: Games on "Cartridges"

I personally love the idea, but the cost of Internet limit and/or SD card prices really does turn the £35 I payed for my Pi into £60! Hmm... Well, project itself will be costless apart from time. As for SD card you can pickup 2GB card for around £4 from play.com (have not checked is this one will d...

Re: Interest in 2D game engine?

@Braqoon: Where do you think the performance hang up is in your game? Could it be in your code of is that the python and pygame? If it's the latter I think I'll switch to some hand built opengl before I even get my Pi! I haven looked properly into it yet, but i think bulk part will be image process...

Re: ArmedSlack 13.37

It might be worth looking at the FAT partition to see if there is a config.txt file there. If so it may contain settings incompatible with your system (you can look at it/edit it with a text editor). Try renaming it to something else so the system boots with default settings to see if that works. T...

Re: pygame development

My game in pygame works a ok. Here's a test on Debian without much tinkering. https://vimeo.com/43205057 I use lot's of transparent .png files and probably can optimize better in overall , but still game runs decently for a first go. I will be testing that more and stripping Os from unwanted stuff t...

Games on "Cartridges"

Hi, I have and idea (nothing new i presume) to create very minimal linux distro for raspi with bare X environment. On top of that you put a game which will start from X in fullscreen making this a kind of a game cartridge for raspi. So you will just download an image, load into your SD card and play...

This is a custom build 2D engine for my needs and game never seen raspi before. Python + Pygame is a great starting point for anyone.
