Re: RASPBIAN STRETCH PROBLEMS

Yes I was running the full version. I say was because, in an effort to get back to what I was trying to do in the first place I reverted back to Raspbian Jessie in order to move forward with the projects/instructionals I'm working on. That being said I probably won't pursue using stretch until I hav...

Re: RASPBIAN STRETCH PROBLEMS

Perhaps as a new user I've made many errors however I first downloaded and installed Stretch the other day which led me down a road to confusion and frustration. One commenter said that accusations were a bit vague. So I have 2 not so vague. First off I'll describe the scenario. A have a Rpi2b and a...

Re: [SOLVED] Can Pi zero W run MQTT?

Yeah, true Dougie. Sometimes when we noobs go out there in www land, we can't tell what projects are older than we should be using, and get turned the wrong direction. Especially when we don't know what direction we should be goin' in the first place  Thanks again.

Re: [SOLVED] Can Pi zero W run MQTT?

I'm sorry, forgive me but I don't understand. The only difference between the two systems was Stretch vs. Jessie. I obtained the mosquitto part from the same source. Yet on the zero I originally got segfaults when installing on stretch. But when I swapped sd card (comprised of Jessie as the OS) from...

Re: [SOLVED] Can Pi zero W run MQTT?

Well no that's not what I'm puzzled about. I took the system sd that was giving me segfaults on the zero and put it into the 2b (Stretch) and it ran fine (I got segfaults on the zero with it) . I then took the system from the 2b and put it in the zero and it too ran fine with no fault errors. So I'm...

Will do Dougie, thank you. Any thoughts on the lack of Segmentation Errors? Just curious........btw it's been running clean on my test bench for a good 12 hrs.

Re: [SOLVED] Can Pi zero W run MQTT?

Hey Dougie, Sorry to pester, but it is said with great power comes great responsibility, right? (Well it worked for Spiderman, anyway  ) Ahem, anyway, when I started this project the author had links to instructions on how to install mosquitto. It included : wget http://repo.mosquitto.org/debia...

Re: [SOLVED] Can Pi zero W run MQTT?

For Zero, ZeroW, ZeroWH, 1B, B+ and CM1 you can't use the mosquitto.org repo, it's build for the wrong ARM architecture and will segfault. You MUST use the version from http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian stretch/main armhf version:1.4.10-3+deb9u1 and mosquitto-clients from the same repo. Than...

Re: [SOLVED] Can Pi zero W run MQTT?

In regard to wemos, I'm running ESP8266 generics without an issue but only with one publish/subscription. If you are programing the wemos with the Arduino IDE, I'd think all you should have to do is add another line in the sketch regarding that request. I was going to test that out when I ran into i...

Re: Tutorial for MQTT on Raspbian Jessie?

Yo Dougie, so I've been running mosquitto on a Rpi 2b brokering for a couple esp8266's. At the same time I was doing tutorials on Python. The system was getting a bit trashy, so I decided to reload Raspbian from the latest noobs and clean it all out. I did so, then did a sudo apt-get install mosquit...

Re: Permissions in Raspbian

Well, for some reason it didn't work for me. I typed the command in to the cli, I got a window open that looked like the file manager window, and a popup window telling me that permissions were granted without a password. However when I tried to copy a file to a usb drive, permission was still denie...

Yeah, thanks Dave. Truth is, I'm not sure where the instructions came from I was following. There's so many sites out there with Rpi projects, and the documentation is quite often not dated.

Re: Headless setup: no keyboard, display or frustration

I thought Real VNC was built-in to Raspbian? What did you have to install? All you normally need to do is enable it in interfaces. I found that to be true after the fact. I was apparently following an older instructional on the process. I wish I could tell the age of some of the instructionals out ...

Re: Newbie requires help for using MQTT

Thanks Dougie, I've been using generic ESP 07'S and 12's for the most part. I started out using an ESP-05 before I quickly learned (as did many others), that the GPIO's were not brought out for use. In other words it is stuck with the "AT" command os. Not many knew back then the power within the ESP...

My apologies mahjongg, but I don't understand what you mean by "hijacking". I am a member of numerous forums, from auto enthusiasts, antique tractor enthusiasts, computer, windows, arduino, ESP8266, skydiving, diesel forums, etc, and never before been accused of hijacking. I'm sorry if I don't under...

Re: MQTT Python paho library for IoT

Thanks for the reply scruss. Being so inexperienced in the world of Rpi and linux, and given the fact that the last time I used a cli was in the days of CP/M and DOS. I'm not quite sure where the problem lies. As far as typo's go, I can say I'm as prone as any to those, but in this case the error wa...

Newbie requires help for using MQTT

I posted this on another subject (relating to web sockets) so apologies for duplicate I think it better belongs here. I really need steering. I really need steering. I have to say I am still new to Raspian, Linux type OS's in general, and the Raspberry pi. Not chronologically mind you but by lack of experience and time to work with it. In an effort to learn more, I'm currently trying to work through a project that was posted on You Tube (...

Ok, so I've installed the latest Raspian via Noobs. enabled SSH, and connected via Putty. YAY! :D Then I went through the procedure of installing VNC server on the Pi, and vnc viewer on my Win 10 laptop (YAY! AGAIN 8-) ). then I thought it would be a good idea to move off the original default user n...

Yeah I've got one of those too. It boots to Raspbian/pixel with no usb power. This is a used unit, I suspect is was abused. After much (unsuccessful) searching for a schematic, and info I just threw it in a drawer. Someday I may try to run it headless, but for now I have other fish to fry.

Anyone have any idea what I might try to fix it? I wish some one did. Re: Broken USB on Pi Zero W

Hello, I'm wondering if there has been a resolution to this issue. I've just gotten a Rpi zero w and have a similar situation. I've posted on another thread because I originally thought I had issues with the Raspbian install. Here's the scenario: Raspberry Pi zero w using a standard Rpi power supply...
