I am still getting only a black screen with a lightning bolt in one corner. I also noticed that the red LED turns off after starting the Pi. I have been having problems with my SD card, so maybe that's what's causing these issues.

Since I'm using the default bootcode from a Linux installation, it sounds like the mailbox registers should work just fine for me :)
