Re: Kernel Panic when connecting to wlan1

I'm seeing this as well. Same chip set, though I believe I may have seen it with others as well. First encountered with Buster, now an updated Stretch fails as well.

You could try a debuild from a copy of the git repository on the Pi, to make a proper deb. You would also need the orig.tar file in the parent directory.
I'm going to have to retract that recommendation. There are many problems with the debian directory configuration for that project.

Re: How to get Stacer to work on Raspbian Stretch

Should I compile from source tarball then? You could try a debuild from a copy of the git repository on the Pi, to make a proper deb. You would also need the orig.tar file in the parent directory. Roughly: sudo apt-get install build-essential devscripts git wget ...orig.tar.xz git clone ... cd ... ...

Re: Raspbian source code image

I believe that you are asking "How can I package my software for inclusion with the Raspbian repository".

The answer is to submit it (https://wiki.debian.org/Packaging) to Debian. For the most part, Raspbian packages flow from that.

Re: Where can i find my cronjobs?

As thagrol says, it is in /var/spool/cron/crontabs. But I suspect you are asking the wrong question. You don't really need to know where the file is, you can edit it with "crontab -e". And it sounds like your real problem is running with the right privileges. For that, you'll want to use one of the ...

Re: Is there a way to encrypt a single folder on a USB stick or usb drive

cryfs, encfs, or gocryptfs are similar command-line utilities that mount encrypted data as a folder at a place you choose, using fuse.

sirikali is a GUI app that can manage them.

Re: Why is raspbian.raspberrypi.org non-https?

Note that, while the protocol is not secure, there is a chain of cryptographic signatures for the index files and deb file contents, tied back to an encryption key on your computer. These are verified by apt*. You should not need to worry about non-Raspbian files getting installed. Take a look in so...

I don't know if this will help you, but, with another computer and a second WiFi adapter on the Pi, Comitup will do the job.

Alternatively, try Comitup. Setup is via a web interface on a hotspot made by the pi.

Re: Want to build a custom Raspbian .img, but would like to learn the foundation...

I'll say two things.

It's pretty easy to self-host pi-gen on a 32 GB SD Raspbian card. It's actually much faster on a Pi than on my desktop, due to QEMU overhead.

Pi-gen is a lightweight wrapper around the command line process for generating the image. The layout is easy to follow.

Is anybody mirroring raspbian repository successfully? How are you doing it? I saw some rather old posts about basically rsync'ing the whole site... The 'official' mechanism involves rsync. https://www.debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror#how I've done this before with a web screen scrape. I'd advise agains...

Comitup does this out-of-the-box.

Except the hostapd part. It uses NetworkManager.

Pi 3 B+ and NetworkManager

There are reports of Wifi issues with the 3 B+. I've had a different experience. I have NetworkManager installed on my devices. Despite the login warning that wifi won't work, it is able to connect fine with no country configured. It reports a '00' country code - that would need to be changed to get...

Re: A Light OS for PI Zero / Browser

You could make your own. Raspbian images are created using pi-gen . The build is a multi-stage process. The Lite image is the output of stage2. The full disk is stage 5. Stage 1 is useable, and is 1/3 the size of stage 2. At that, it still includes things like python, perl, and build-essential - opp...

I'm going to bet that your SD cards are not bricked, or even read-only for that matter. Once you've burned the card, when you next insert it into your computer, it will auto-mount anything it can. Partition managers won't modify mounted partitions. Try the instructions at https://www.raspberrypi.org...

With two wifi adapters, it will automatically maintain a hotspot with one, provide a web interface to connect to an upstream Access Point with the other, and set up routing between them.
