Thx! Reviewing my /etc/udev/rules.d directory, I realized that I unwittingly broke the bluetooth interface when I was configuring a different rule to mount an android device on my RPi. I had renamed 99-com.rules to 99-rules.com.old - which broke the bluetooth interface. Reverting the file name fixed...
