Ah, I remember that. I think on Stackoverflow I saw that 4.1 kernel was required, but when Jessie 4.1 came out, it still wasn't working. I don't have a clue about the 'backporting'. It looks like you're trying to run BlueZ 5 code under BlueZ 4. What does 'bluetoothd -v' tell you?
