Re: Audio playback in C

Peter, Very nice indeed! That's exactly what I'm looking for. You even have sound for the switches. One important point. When the reels are starting to turn, I do not yet know for how long they will turn. I therefore need a way to pause the sound (or play back the sound of the drive while it is not ...

Audio playback in C

I'm currently working on an on-screen front panel emulator for the vintage 1970s DECtape TU56 magnetic tape drive. This video shows is running on a PiDP-11 (a replica of a PDP-11) with the emulator running on a Raspberry Pi 4: https://youtu.be/Ye_s0w6C970 A video of the original vintage hardware in ...

Hide mouse cursor in full screen mode

What is the best way using Raspbian Buster to hide the mouse cursor in full screen mode for a particular application? I have read about unclutter. Is this the right way to do it? Or is there anything which can be set in a configuration file? I'm using cool-retro-term on my PDP-11 replica based on a ...

Re: Historical high resolution graphics on the Raspberry Pi

I have added some plot files of the spacelab made with the tek4010 emulator and the ICEMDDN CAD package made on a CDC Cyber 175 mainframe emulator in my github repo. Thanks to Nick Glazzard for the plot files. These could definitely benefit from a screen with 4K resolution. https://raw.githubusercon...

Re: Historical high resolution graphics on the Raspberry Pi

It's a nice start. But I'm sure that the vectors can be accelerated using hardware video acceleration, and multiple can be ran at a time. Yes, indeed, but the purpose of the project was to recreate the original as nearly as possible. The Raspberry Pi is more than fast enough for what you are talkin...

Re: Historical high resolution graphics on the Raspberry Pi

One has to differentiate between vector displays using bistable storage such as the Tektronix 4014 and other types of vector displays. On a bistable storage tube, you could draw using a very focussed beam and high resolution deflection circuits, but drawing had to be rather slow. Because the image w...

Re: Historical high resolution graphics on the Raspberry Pi

I have tested the tek4010 emulator with the laters 4 GByte RPi4 (corrected), and it works very nicely with the additional memory, processing power and graphics speed. My terminal has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Using a 4K terminal will be even better to emulate the original Tektronix 4014 with the ...

Re: pin 40 on rpi 4

Thanks, Joan. Your input is helpful because it shows that pin 40 can be set to pullup. I have quite a number of large programs which benefit a lot from the new Pi4 speed and memory, but use lots of pins using C and WiringPi. Some pins are attached to buttons and do therefore need a pullup. I do not ...

pin 40 on rpi 4

Hi, I am trying to use pin 40 (BCM 21, wiringPi 29) as an input pin on my new Raspberry Pi 4. I have upgraded wiringPi to the latest version 2.52. Most pins appear to work as before, but pin 40 cannot be set to an input pin with pullup anymore: Trying to use gpio mode 29 in gpio mode 29 up Does not ...

Re: Historical high resolution graphics on the Raspberry Pi

Yes, you can display all the historic data just using a Raspberry Pi. They are all in the repo. Just downloading and installing tek4010 is sufficient. Then use the "cat" option to display the historical files. Of course it's nice to combine tek4010 with the PiDP-11 (also Raspberry Pi based) because o...

For those of you interested in the history of computer graphics, I have written a Tektronix 4010, 4013, 4014, 4015 and ARDS terminal emulator for the Raspberry Pi. It comes together with interesting historical graphics data. Youtube videos: https://youtu.be/4jZzypvxoHU https://youtu.be/7FMewaoEOmk G...

Re: mounted usb drive does not show up in /media/pi

I traced the problem down to usbmount being configured when installing Retropie on top of existing full Raspbian. Just disabling usbromservice in retropie config does not solve the problem. "sudo apt-get remove usbmount" does solve the problem and usb drives are again mounted as normal at boot and w...

create a block to execute a python script

Has anybody written an extention to create a block which calls the command line (for example a python or shell script), preferrably with arguments? I would like to send commands to some hardware (output only), which cannot be done by just changing a gpio pin, but can be easily done from within a pyt...

Use desktop font in Python(tkinter) [solved]

I am writing a gui interface in python using tkinter. I know how to set the font name and size in tkinter, but I would like to use the same font and size as the user has set on the desktop.

How can I read the desktop font name and size using python?
