Re: CUPS pausing printers

This happens for me as well, on a Raspberyy Pi 3 with Raspbian Stretch (I think). A network attached HP printer keeps showing as "Paused" in the CUPS admin page. Simply "Resume"-ing it lets it print. I too thought it might be due to the printer going to sleep, but like Milos, I'm not always there to...

Re: HOWTO: Move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

I run multiple generation Pi's from one SSD drive.. although obviously not at the same time!! The SSD is currently partitioned into 5 and I've got 5 totally independent installations to work with. If this drive was on a network, you could use them all at the same time on five different pi. But it s...

Re: HOWTO: Move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

... It seems like Swiftek has the setup that I am aspiring to – torrent, mediaserver and webserver running off external HDDs. ... To be clear, I'm not using any secret magiks - in fact, I don't even know how to do the options other than A B. Also, I don't call mine a "mediaserver" because it's just...

Re: HOWTO: Move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

First, I'd try it again, exactly the same way, from the beginning, just to be sure - personally I do things at least 3 times before changing the plan. Secondly, consider that not all hardware works with the Pi. Try switching out each component one at a time. You may find - like I did - that your ext...

Re: HOWTO: Move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

I use this to save wear on the SD card - which doesn't like lots of writes - and to prevent corruptions that seemed accompany that. Since I moved to a HDD, I've had no more long-term system problems. My server runs 24/7, and the SD cards didn't seem to like that. That's very nice to know. Can you s...

Re: HOWTO: Move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

I just wanted to thank you, paulv , for writing this tutorial. I did quite a bit of searching and found that this one seems to be the most complete, up to date, and sensible. It's easy to read, follow and remember; and it's a fine piece of tech-writing. :ugeek: On my old B model Pi, I had a problem ...

Re: Minecraft on Raspberry Pi ? (yes I m crazy)

It is not pointless ! We're doing science .. pushing the Pi to its unknown limits ! Agreed! Thanks for setting me straight. It may turn out that getting Minecraft to run is pointless if it runs too slowly, as I suspect might be the end result. probably the largest barrier will be the massive amount...

Re: Minecraft on Raspberry Pi ? (yes I m crazy)

This is an older thread, but now that we're getting our Raspis shipped I thought I'd revive it. If nothing else, what is needed to run Minecraft could be useful in other ways, I suppose. Warning, I'm no expert with Java, Linux or ARM devices. So, I've gotten the Minecraft launcher to run and success...

That was it! It boots up most times now, but I think the micro SD card and/or the adapter might be wonky.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Re: Anyone in the US get a ship date from Newark (Element/14

A good starting point is the RasPi Troubleshooting wiki page: http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting . If you only get a red power light, it's most likely a power problem or the SD card is faulty or not loaded correctly. Thanks for the tip! I will start there and rebuild my SD card to begin with. T...

Even after a problem with my credit card, I discovered today that my first Pi has shipped! UPS says I should get it sometime tomorrow, June 6. :D For the record, I ordered on March 3 and my Order Conf. Number was: 188xxx. First, I'm going to build a robot that fetches candy and beer! Then, I'm going...

Re: Anyone in the US get a ship date from Newark (Element/14

Considering that the entire point of the Raspberry Pi is a purely non-profit effort to educate and improve the world through technology, I'm choosing to focus on that sans everything else. I won't complain about availability, shipping dates, prices, or communications; threaten to cancel my order; or...

Not sure if this is relevant, but there was a rather nasty tropical storm named Beryl pounding the East coast recently. I could picture a truck turning right around and heading back to where it started in that kind of mess.

Re: Touch Display (with Multi-Touch) for RasPi

I did some checking and found this chart that answers lots of questions for me. It would appear that PCT is the way to go for multi-touch, but I'm just now getting into this so I haven't a clue really.

Re: Touch Display (with Multi-Touch) for RasPi

That's a very cool product! The only possible problems I see are the lack of HDCP support (does the Pi support HDCP?) and that it doesn't appear to be multi-touch. The compatible OS list is limited to Windows, Mac and Linux. I wonder why that is and whether that may be an issue for the Pi. If that o...

Thanks for all the info. I look forward to hearing what you learn and seeing what you come up with.

Are you designing and building the controller yourself because there isn't anything off the shelf that will do what you want?

Re: 8.9 touch screen solution

That sounds like an exciting project, and I find myself wishing I had your PCB skills. I'm a PC tech from way back, but I don't even own a multi-touch device yet, so I don't have a clue where to start with that. Are the touch panels that you refer to separate from the display? Is that a typical desi...

Re: Anyone in the US get a ship date from Newark (Element/14

+1 for June 18. I ordered from Newark on March 3 and was invited to order from RS today. I'm in Florida, USA. I'm not upset in the slightest, of course, and I'm still very excited to see what it can do. The nifty $15 AA (x4) battery pack I found at NewEgg should power it nicely so all I need now is ...
