Re: How to Backup your SDcard

Not all sd cards of the same advertised size are actually the same size some are smaller than others. The best thing to do is to shrink the last partition on the card a couple hundred meg before making your backup. You can do this with a Linux pc or a pc booted from a Linux live cd/usb. Now when you...

Re: create a wall-powered "1 port hub"?

First off mAh (milliamp hour) is a measure of battery capacity, not current. mA (milliamps) and is a current measurement (sorry I'm anal about that) :) I'm assuming you've got it all running off the 2A power supply so why not go the easy route and get another 2A supply to use with your tablet and co...

With Raspbmc you're better off using their native installer. The NOOBS version of Raspbmc has some issues with updates

Re: Powering Raspberry Pi on P1 pin 2

If you ask me to be relentlessly honest, I think it's because people cannot solder to create their own PSU wires to mini-USB cable, or they are too afraid they make a mistake because they don't know which wires to connect to. Connecting to GPIO pins needs less skills, and thought, so it is simply e...

Re: Powering Raspberry Pi on P1 pin 2

I know tons of people do this, but I've always wondered why they do that instead of through the USB connection. I'm guessing it's because they don't have a USB power source where their RPi is, but if someone could give me a real world example of why you would do this, I'd appreciate it. (PS: Don't ...

It could be depending on the internal hub circuitry, if that is the power supply that came with the hub it "should" be ok. You may want to check voltage at the ports on the hub.

Re: Logic Level Converter: Why is this circuit working?

In your picture it looks like you're bypassing the board completely the way it's situated on the breadboard, I think you need the inputs and outputs to bridge the center of the board. Note that I'm not an electronics expert and may be wrong.

Mahjong will most likely freak over this but if there's no warranty try baking it in the oven to reflow the solder joints, do a google search for details. Also here http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/searc ... sf=msgonly

How many amps is the power supply to the hub? Have you tried plugging just the keyboard and nothing else? Did it work in Arch?

Re: UBEC: What is what?

I can tell you that the bare wires are most likely input and the wires with a connector are output but am unsure why there are 3 rather than 2 wires, best to contact the seller.

EDIT You could remove the shrink wrap and trace the wires.

Re: Raspbmc - is USB install worthwhile?

You have a slow usb drive, check the speeds of usb 3 drives in usb 2 ports and they about double what your sd gives (sd cards on PI max out about 20 regardless of what they are rated)

Re: Power supply question

In order to figure this out first you need to list all required voltages and current, for starters there is:
PI 5V 700mA
Fans 12V ??A
Monitor ????
Lamps ?????
Controller ??????
Keyboard/mouse ?????

Once you get a completw list then you can figure out what is needed to power everything.

Usbit (usb image tool) will allow you to write the oversized image with a blank at the end directly to a card, just select "truncate oversize images" in settings. As long as the last partition ends before it truncates the card will be usable. If your last partition is swap you can just write the ima...
