Re: [SOLVED] Raspberry doesn't recieve data from HPMA115S0-XXX Particle Sensor (UART)

Thank you. I used your suggestions and it eventually worked. My biggest problem was loose connections. Those little connectors to the HPMA115S0 are a bugger to keep in when you push in the plastic connector. I am now ready for fire season and the smoke so I can tell just how horrible it is. Probably...

Re: STICKY: HOWTO: Move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Did you make sure you had 2 partitions? Make sure you have 2 partitions by typing sudo blkid – should show sda1 and sda2 where before it was sda1. There should have been two n commands in gdisk. This is what I did - following the instructions on the first page A Before using gdisk need to make sure ...

Re: SD Card Backup taking 15 Hours

Based on the information from the sticky by paulv on how to transfer the OS to a USB device using rsync will be better than dd. We can copy (mirror) the Debian filesystem data currently on the SD card in /dev/root to the new drive. You can use dd, but that is a bit copy program and, because it also ...

Never mind. I bit the bullet and just saved the samba files on another computer and then updated this Pi 2 with Stretch, Pi-Hole and Samba. The Samba on stretch works now.

Re: STICKY: HOWTO: Move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Following the sticky I was able to move the stretch OS to a usb WD hard drive (HDD driven by a powered usb hub). Stretch appears to go with partuuid instead of sda. Note that there is a UUID and a PARTUUID which are different. Use the PARTUUID when setting things up. paulv what is the reasoning on m...

Re: Best way to run conky at startup?

Just got through fighting going from conky 1.9 to 1.10 on stretch OS. But NOVASPIRIT has a procedure that seems to follow the desktop approach. See https://www.novaspirit.com/2017/02/23/desktop-widget-raspberry-pi-using-conky/ I also used his .conkyrc flie that I had to convert using convert.lua scr...

Windows 7 can't find Samba shares on pi Jessie after update

I have 3 Raspberry Pis (one Pi 2 and two Pi 3) running raspbian Jessie on USB drives. Before I did an update upgrade on two of the Pi, my Windows 7 machines could access the Samba shares on all three. I updated and upgraded two of the Pi and left the third alone. Now the Windows machines can only ac...

Re: USB Booting on Raspberry Pi Model B

According to Adafruit you can but need a SD card with the boot partition, everything else runs from the USB device. See
https://learn.adafruit.com/external-dri ... s?view=all

I have done 2(so far) Pi3's and a Pi2 with no problem.

Re: Traffic Lights with Sound Sensor for noisy class

Yes it is doable but you will need more than just the Pi. Also it would seem to me that unless you are in the class that it would just be a challenge for the kids to make the light RED. Look at this website https://blog.mornati.net/raspberrypi-motion-and-noise-detection/ or just google/bing/duck duc...

Re: SD vs SD-XC card

I have a USB hard drive that I use to run the Pi OS (boot on the SD card). I know that the way I did it (Adafruit way) they use a UUID for the hard disk instead of sda, sdb, whatever. That also appears to be how you did it also. I assume the ssd drive is hooked to a USB port. How did you change your...

Re: Compiling sqliteman on Pi 3

The sqliteman that I compiled using ktb's instructions seemed to work for me on a copied database from weewx. Of course that does not mean much since I now have to figure out how to make queries that I need. But it did show the database structure, and seemed to return simple queries I was able to ma...

Wow - Thank you. Worked just as you described. I really appreciate the help. Just to show how ignorant I am about CMake I went on past sqliteman/Sqliteman to sqliteman/Sqliteman/sqliteman and tried to cmake . there. No wonder nothing worked. Amazing that something kind of worked. Just ignored the CM...

Thanks for the quick reply It got rid of the UUID problem - for some reason the ICU is still there although I see the icu lib and tools were supposedly installed during the sudo apt-get install uuid-dev libicu-dev Also still have the install FILES given no DESTINATION CMake Error at icons/CMakeLists...

Have some problems compiling sqliteman - what am I doing wrong? Errors shown are way beyond my capability of figuring things out. Pi3 latest Raspian Jesse Pixel. PSA change pi to newname

I have a Pi 3 that I wanted to secure a bit better than just changing the pi user password. I wanted a new name and password change.
