Re: On/off switch on the case?

Thinking of building a Pi for someone. Has anyone worked out making the on/off switch be on the case rather than on the power cable? Parts list? Images? Suggestions? The Argon40 cases have a fan, additional circuitry and soft power button. I personally don't own one but here's a good review describ...

Re: headless mode on the pi4?

Definitely the same setup. I didn't have a micro cable for my Pi4 when I set it up as a headless network server. Though I did use a USB serial to console cable and that worked the same as Pi3 and earlier. Guide here: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruits-raspberry-pi-lesson-5-using-a-console-cable/co...

Re: RPI Expansion Boards

I think it's less about Foundation moving away from HAT boards but more about critical mass of the ecosystem. When the Pi first released they had to make their own HAT boards to demonstrate there was a market demand and inspire "what_is_possible?". Fast forward to today and there are dozens of compa...

Re: Will the Rasberry Pi 4 Model B's processor support X64 Emulation (Windows on ARM)?

Hello, So I wanted to purchase a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B to attach it to my T.V. as a mini PC with Windows 10 ARM running on it. I came across the following article: https://www.neowin.net/news/exclusive-microsoft-is-working-to-bring-64-bit-intel-app-emulation-to-windows-on-arm My question is, will ...

Wonderful Chinese eBay goods.... This is a good solution: https://thepihut.com/products/fan-shim-for-raspberry-pi Yes, but I'm a big fan of no fan use ! :D I like silence and quite things. Don't you have a passive solution ? Argon40 has a new Pi 4 case that has active and passive cooling. It just c...

How about Zero revision with micro hdmi and usb c connectors? I would like updated wifi chip and external antenna connector as well, but that would definitely add to the cost.

Re: Network data usage limiter

You may have to set the pi up as the router and/or an access point to capture and control all data. I would be more tempted to use a real router with DD-WRT or OpenWRT and use the pi as the web server and issue instructions via ssh / telnet to the router based on the data you input If the number of...

It appears that PiServer boots each remote client via PXE network booting which isn't implemented on the Pi4 yet. PXE for the Pi4 is being worked on though according to the documentation. https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/piserver/ https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/bootee...

Re: How much RAM for Rpi4 as HTPC

For video playback, 1GB of ram isn't the bottleneck, cpu / hardware video acceleration is. For the Pi 4 I believe acceleration drivers are currently in beta state but will improve in time. Still if you even think you may want to experiment other than HTPC I would consider the 2GB or 4GB model.

Re: Recommendations for a Power Bank

I don't think you can find a Pi specific UPS solution at that capacity or price. It's a total crap shoot trying to find a USB bank that doesn't power dip between switching to charging. It is possible to use super capacitors to maintain power for the switch over, but the added cost of materials and e...

Re: Using hot glue to mount 3B ?

The title says it all. I am building a test gear "breadboard style". Since I design as I go (!) I find it unnecessary challenging (!) to keep drilling "daughter boards" mounting holes and messing with tiny screws. The 3B board has NO components requiring air circulation on the BOTTOM of the board -...

For something simple as measuring a sensor, have you considered using a wifi micro controller like a ESP8266? You also didn't say how much hacking you're willing to do, or are you searching for a finished product. https://hilo90mhz.com/esp8266-battery-monitor/ https://www.hackster.io/jamin/blynk-pow...
