Re: configuring raspbian for a headless pi 3 best practices?

Hi, for better startup times you could try to disable, or better not enable, any interfaces and services you do not need. E.g. Pi3 connected to LAN by ethernetcable; WLAN, BT and HDMI not enabled shows:

Code: Select all

$ systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 2.202s (kernel) + 5.016s (userspace) = 7.219s

Re: My Pi gets HOT

So a little update. First off, with the screen brightness dimmed, I originally reported that the Temps went down to 73C. I was wrong. After it was on all day today, it was back up to 80C. Bad news. You need better convection. But, back to your other question, I killed Firefox, and my python buttons...

Re: My Pi gets HOT

So here is my project so you know what I'm dealing with. Basically my pi3 is enclosed in the caging of a monitor. And this monitor gets HOT. So the pi gets hot. I'm talking it would sit at 83C constantly. However, I tested, and even with the monitor powered off all day, and producing no heat, the P...

Re: Time setting on startup with no Internet?

I am very puzzled by this since I can't figure out any way the screensaver can know it is out of date.. Except if the developers have put an expire date right into the program itself of course. :( Which is exactly what happened: https://www.jwz.org/blog/2016/04/i-would-like-debian-to-stop-shipping-...

Re: Turning off HDMI backlight

tvservice -o will power down the HDMI display. For more, try: tvservice --help Hope this helps, Dave. So how do you turn the display back on? I tried (blind typed) tvservice -p and the backlight is turned on and the TV wakes up and recognizes an active input, however the screen remains black and I ...

Re: Heatsink question

As physics was mentioned before in this thread, let's have a look at it. I have compiled a little excerpt from the datasheets of a heatsink producer. It lists different heatsinks together with their thermal resistance diagram. On the x-axis of the diagram you find the air velocity in meters per seco...

The weird thing is, sometimes it recognizes them, and other times they do not show up. Openelec and Kodi seem to have no problem recognizing and using whatever Windows shares are out there dyna...

I would like to see that Dirac quote in context, but it doesn't sound like the words of someone working in science . Could well come out the mouth of a mathematician though (but afaicr Dirac had an engineering background before entering theoretical physics). The quote is from Scientific American Ma...

I suspect "dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt" is also avoiding the issue. Remove that line and you'll probably hit the issue.
I am happy that the error could be narrowed down. At least my Pi could serve as a counterexample.

Others untested. 3 runs of Linpack; N=10000; max=7,189 Gflops; max temp = 45°C Unfortunately linpack results for N=10000 can't be directly compared to those for N=8000.
