Either. Aerials obviously stick up into the air, and attract any electrical charge going. Overhead power lines are also vulnerable. Doesn't sound good. I've had a similar problem. A storm took out the HDMI on the TV and Pi3. Of course, the surge protection power board was sitting a metre away waiting for me to plug it in...
