Re: HDD spin-down with a. hd_idle or b. hd_param - which method to choose?

hello dear LTolledo, first of all: many thanks for the quick reply- HDDs (yes those spinning rust) last more if those are maintained continuously spinning... and tend to breakdown faster if spun up and down, and/or with frequent power on and off cycles... Many thanks for sharing your ideas, thoughts...

HDD spin-down with a. hd_idle or b. hd_param - which method to choose?

Dear Raspi-experts and fellows, I use raspbian and am looking for a method to connect an old WD 300GB usb (which is powered externally) hard drive: It is part of a NAS. I plan to use it so, that there may be large amounts of time when it is not in use. That said - it comes to mind that I'd like to a...

Powering Pi and 3.5" HDD from one (64 Watt) PSU - with Spin-down (hd-idle or hd-idle)

dear friends , fellow pi-experts, i have some old 2.5 and 3.5 HDDs here - its still slightly cheaper than buying new ones off-the-shelf USB HDD drives of the same capacity. So - for the NAS i will use the old ones - and I get to select the HDD of my choice for that enclosure. plan; building up a NAS...
