Re: General language discussion.

Does anyone remember a language called APL? You needed a special keyboard for its goofy character set and it had operators with names like “quote quad”. I learned it as a Computer Science student at Michigan State University in 1980...and I’ve never seen it since. You could do some insanely powerful...

If you are just starting up.... get the RPi3B. Learn the basics first.....

once you know your way around.... and want more processing power and better Ethernet speed, get the RPi3B+!
Why can you not learn the same basics on a 3B+?

Sorry about the delay, got lost of over the Monday holiday.

Yes, this is an official supply. It's the single head version (ie moulded in country specific plug rather than interchangable). They are available through a number of resellers.
Cool, thanks!

I’m hoping someone from the foundation can weigh in on this.

If it’s not a fake, great.

If it is, Microcenter needs to be notified about this.

Can you post something, anything about what you tried and what didn't work? The more detail the better.

Re: GCC 9.1 released

My build completed.

I enabled only c, c++ and it took about 6 hours 15 min on a fan-cooled 3B+. It also uses an SSD, not a microSD card.

From time to time I checked the temperature and it never got over 48-49c.

Re: Is this an official power supply?

@echmain Does the one you got from Microcenter have the RaspberryPi logo moulded into the plastic? The image at https://www.microcenter.com/product/602881/raspberry-pi-official-power-supply---white shows that it does. In which case I would reckon it is "official". Yes, I should have posted that pho...

Is this an official power supply?

I bought this at a Microcenter store.

It's US only, no international plug adapters included. But I like this form factor better than the other adapter as it's smaller and sits sideways in a power strip.

I've never seen this and want to be sure it's legit.

Re: dropbox on rpi3

There’s a very nice shell script available that allows for all sort of Dropbox functions.

It also has an interactive mode but I mainly use it for automating the uploading of some podcasts.

Sorry I don’t have the Github link for it but a few google searches should help you locate it.

Power failure is and always will be hardware related.

Cut the power, all electronics dead, any software solution in those electronics cease to function...

Never heard of any software running on dead / un-powered electronics....
Is that a "zombie process"?

When you say "is the pi worth it?"

What do you mean by "it"?

If you mean a small investment to learn a bunch of new things about computers, Linux, and interfacing with electronics and other devices, then YES!

If you mean an insane clown in a storm drain, then probably not.

I use one made by Pluggable. Works perfectly.

I also run Pi Hole on a Pi Zero but only my Windows machine is pointing to it.

Works great, I don’t notice any slowdowns.

I’m also using the Adafruit oled display for stats display. But I reduced the refresh rate from 1/10 th of a second to once per minute.
