Re: MIDI keyboards?

The easiest way is probably a USB<->MIDI adapter.

Most of them work with the generic driver (part of ALSA. See the discussion here.)

Look for one that does not require a driver CD under Windows (like this one) as these are most likely to work with the generic driver.

@Liam, any particular reason you want to avoid EGL? The subsampling could probably be implemented more efficiently in a fragment shader.

I think this is a bug in an early version of the firmware.

rpi-update fixed it for me.

hello_triangle2 is not a port of hello_triangle to GLES2.0 (I don't think one exists, unfortunately.) It's a separate program that demonstrates the programmable shader capability.

Re: Doom/Doom II/Quake (accelerated)

I tried running prboom on my Pi yesterday evening... Good news: it found the WAD files I'd installed, and there were no problems with sound (well, OK, the music wasn't playing, but the sound effects were). Bad news: I couldn't see any visuals :( I tried specifying the "window" size to 640x480 (I wa...

Re: GLSL weirdness / possible bug?

Another workaround might be to specify:

Code: Select all

{
      EGL_COLOR_BUFFER_TYPE, EGL_RGB_BUFFER,
      EGL_BUFFER_SIZE, 15,
      EGL_NONE
}
That lets you portably specify a minimum depth overall but without specifying depths for any components (R,G,B,A) which would mess up the default sort order.

Re: GLSL weirdness / possible bug?

I don't believe eglGetConfigs makes any promises about the order of the returned configs. You just get all the configs that satisfy your request (i.e. attributes are >= request). I believe you have to then search the list for the "best" match. I think this may be a bug, as the Khronos docs (e.g. ht...

Re: section for GL?

Yeah, there needs to be more documentation for GLES on the Pi. Yes, especially a "GLSL quirks" page. Things I've noticed so far: The == operator on floats tests for bitwise equality, so for example 0.0 == -0.0 evaluates to false exp(-inf) returns +inf All numeric types are represented as 32-bit flo...

Re: GPGPU on the R-PI.

I see that OpenCL/CUDA are probably never going to be implemented. But is there any chance of an implementation of GL_OES_texture_float in the future, or of increasing GL_MAX_DRAW_BUFFERS? Even increasing this to 2 would greatly increase the range of tasks that could be performed on the GPU using GL...

Re: Sound fails after a while - snd-bcm2835

I've seen this too. A program that produces sound (in my case ogg123) hangs. I also noticed another strange effect (that can be used as a workaround.) Open another terminal (or SSH connection) and use amixer to change any setting (e.g. volume.) Example: amixer cset numid=1 123 (the volume value can ...

How did you build TrueCrypt for the Pi?

I know you need the NO_ASM option, but what about the wxGTK dependency? I couldn't get it to work with the version from Debian Squeeze.

Detect whether HDMI or RCA output is active

Is there an API call that will tell you whether the RCA video output is currently in use? I have noticed that graphics_get_display_size() always returns the full HDMI framebuffer size (typically 1920x1080) - it does not appear to be affected by the the given display ID or by what port is currently a...

You can certainly use LuaJIT (2.0.0b10) on the Pi - I'm experimenting with it right now. So far I've managed to use the FFI to: - Call functions in the BLAS library (the version included in NumPy) to multiply matrices - Call EGL/GLES functions (so far: created a surface and filled it with a single c...
