Re: ScotchPi

This all sounds good to me. I can bring an additional wired switch and some cables. I also have an unused wireless netgear router I could donate, but not sure how easy it would be to make this into a wireless switch? Perhaps workshop #1 could be on networking and DHCP, with the aim being to get all ...

Re: ScotchPi

I agree the Electron Club sounds like a good idea - it's already kitted out and free, and only a shortish walk from the train stations for those outside Glasgow. In addition the 'Open Source Hardware' group also meets there once a month, so we should probably reach out to them (at least to try and p...

Re: ScotchPi

Hello, I originally started this thread last year but then went and hospitalised myself so been out of action for a while, but back now! I'm based at Strathclyde University, where I use my Pis to carry out data extraction for my research, basically little web scrapers that work away in the backgroun...

Re: [Q]hd44780 lcd screen

Thankyou, that works perfectly! I also realised that the commands I was calling were using the spi versions of the c scripts and not the i2c ones. I wrote the following bit of python to output specific strings to the LCD: #!/usr/local/bin/python import os import sys os.system('./send_i2c 82 10 0') i...

Re: [Q]hd44780 lcd screen

Hello, I'm still not getting the i2c display to work. I connected the expansion board to the LCD by using 4 female to female jumper leads. It wasn't clear which order the 4 should go in on the screen, so I tried both - one direction the screen lit up, the other the Raspi shut down, so I guess the fi...

Re: [Q]hd44780 lcd screen

I have a bitwizard screen connected via the i2c interface as above.

In order to control it, do I need to recompile the kernel with the right driver (eek!) or is there another way around this?

I'm Glasgow-based, but we could do a Scottish user group in either of the cities?

Post if interested or have ideas!

Re: [Q]hd44780 lcd screen

Hello I would like to set up an LCD display but am new to this hardware.

What cable do I need to connect the bitwizard raspi breakout board to the i2c LCD display?

And how do I power the i2c LCD module?

Re: Can I Teach my 4 Year Old to Program?

On my 4th birthday, my brother and my dad made a program in BASIC on a Commodore PET which asked me my name, if it was my birthday, and how old I was. An ASCII balloon then went up the screen and it wished me a happy 4th birthday. This was amazing , and I had to know how it was done. My Dad very pat...

Setting the device name [debian]

hi there, When I type 'hostname' at the terminal prompt, I get 'raspberrypi'. However, when I connect my raspi to my (Netgear) router, the router shows 'Device Name: UKNOWN'. I would like my router to automatically reserve an IP address for my raspi, so need to ascribe it a device name the router ca...
