Re: finding out the best way to bookmark links and websites - which tool do you use!?

Turn ON the Bookmarks bar in your web browser. Create a folder for each main subject you might be interested in and one for 'STUFF'. Some Folders on my Chromium Bookmarks Bar on my Pi 4 are: MEDIA - YouTube - HISTORY - TRAVEL - LINUX - Lifestyle - OddStuff You can fit about 9 folders along the Chrom...

Re: analog Sound Raspberry PI 4 is mono, not stereo

Having been an electronics tech in one of the military services in the 70s that was my diagnosis, and the reason I planned to buy a replacement set of speakers. But after I wrote the post above, I checked stuff again, just to be sure and swapped back to Manjaro on microSD running pulseaudio, and the...

Re: analog Sound Raspberry PI 4 is mono, not stereo

So my next step is to buy a new Speaker set that works on ALL my computers! At last I can stop posting on this topic :D I was a little premature with that assumption. I was messing around with a recently acquired small Lenovo computer, and plugged my Logitech speakers in - just out of curiosity to ...

Re: Bluetooth Panel Button missing

Interesting. I don;t usually have the Bluetooth icon on my Panel because I rarely use it on Linux computers. So I added it, and went to the' Preferences > Theme and Appearance' Menu and changed the Icon theme form PixFlat to a few of the others. it is not only the Bluetooth Icon that disappears. On ...

Re: Pi4 64-bit raspbian kernel for testing - Focus on Pi4

I don;t know if this is particularly relevant or interesting, but I just opened the desktop wallpaper image of the Millenium Falcon in GIMP while omxplayerGUI was playing an .m4a file and Chromium was doing stuff in 4 tabs. I ran the Filters > Edge detect > Neon on the image and watched the temperat...

Re: RPI4 - OMX Player - No Audio -- Audio works with VLC media player

Chris, I've just checked omxplayerGUI on my Pi 4 and it is playing an .m4a audio file fine (I don't have any .mp3 files on this SSD, but it was also playing them last time I checked). On the bottom right corner of the omxplayerGUI window is a slider. It doesan;t have a name, and usually the control ...

Re: Bluetooth Panel Button missing

I noticed that Raspbian on 'my' Pi 4 regularly loses icons from the panel. This has been happening even after regular full / dist upgrades for the months I have had my Pi 4. It has also happened with fresher installs right up to the latest Busty. Usually, a simple fix is to open a Terminal and use: ...

Re: Pi4 64-bit raspbian kernel for testing - Focus on Pi4

And as of today, Kodi only works with a 64 bit kernel on Raspbian if you update the kernel/firmware with rpi-update tool, it won't work with the current kernel/firmware available on the repos. Answers my question perfectly, thanks. And yes, it is working perfectly for me so far on the Linux raspber...

Kodi has played movies fine when run as a program under Raspbian for months. So fne that I often use it then forget I can't pause a video and switch to windowed mode to check email, then switch back. There used to be a simple toggle in Kodi, like \ or / or something, but I can't find any reference ...

Re: Pi4 64-bit raspbian kernel for testing - Focus on Pi4

Just to add another issue - the (now official) rascas Raspberry Pi-specific build of Kodi is non-functional on the 64-bit kernel - it displays its bootsplash then crashes. Log available if anyone is interested. Does the rascas build do anything specific, for example is it built to play 4k video? Ju...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 is not a replacement for a real PC, (as it doesn't have Skype) sorry!

However, claiming Linux can't print due to a particular printer not supporting Linux is pretty much the same argument as the Pi is not a real desktop, since Microsoft will not release version of Skype for it. Which is exactly why I included (not the Pis fault) in my comment. Just as the problem of ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 is not a replacement for a real PC, (as it doesn't have Skype) sorry!

In hindsight would Eben have said "Desktop level of performance"? As far as I'm concerned, he could have got away with saying that about the Pi 4 with 4GB. If I look 4 metres left of where I'm sitting I can see two 'real PCs' sitting on a desk, that have not been turned on at all since the Pi arriv...

Problem gone, but I don't know why or what happened in the first place. My Pi 4 has just done this to me again and I am not accessing it through V...

There's one Topic about the Pi 4 as a Desktop Computer, another Topic about Raspberry Pi 4 as a primary desktop computer (I haven't done an index search, but I bet there are more).

And there's 'this' Topic, which is the 'comic relief' thread. :D

IMO the Pi4 4GB IS the first Pi that can be used by a "normal" :) person as a "proper" working Linux computer. I'm getting a bit annoyed with statements like that! But not for the reason one would imagine. They remind me to go and turn my "proper" working Linux computer ON so I can keep the inkjet ...

Not to my knowledge. Scratch is a pretty self-contained environment. It can have extensions to perform other functions like accessing GPIO, but I'm pretty certain it doesn't have anything that can run an arbitrary command. Thanks, I couldn't find anything on Google or ChookChook that even hinted at...

We used to have a Skype client for Linux. I think Microsoft changed something and the people who wrote it got fed up with having to fix it all the time. I haven't checked recently to see if it is there. Last chat thing I put on my Linux PCs was a home made FB Messenger program, because the ones in t...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 is not a replacement for a real PC, sorry!

What a strange view on life.. I'm sure I used a real PC before Skype ever existed. Many of us at IBM used a proprietary messaging program. And almost everyone IU knew used IRC. When AOL became available a lot of us used that. Then there were so many other options for contact. Yahoo and MSN etc. My I...
